PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Gracie (ranked 1861 p4p, 2287 weight class) and Ginny Cotroni (ranked 22 p4p, 32 weight class). Ginny Cotroni told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ginny Cotroni!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Damien Edna and Eliza Hachem.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Cotroni.
Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown. Cotroni tries to sprawl out of it but Gracie keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cotroni manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Cotroni misses with a wild body shot.
Cotroni is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gracie.
Gracie drops his hands momentarily and Cotroni takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

It looks like James Gracie has been cut.
Gracie shoots for a double leg takedown but Cotroni sprawls well. He's pushed Gracie's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Gracie throws a big shot that misses.
Gracie looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Gracie tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Cotroni defends well and Gracie ends up having to push Cotroni into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cotroni lands a left hand that snaps the head of Gracie backwards.

Cotroni breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cotroni scores with a crisp jab that stopped Gracie in his tracks.
Cotroni ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gracie moves away.
Cotroni swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Gracie ducks under a wild hook from Cotroni.

Cotroni feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Gracie sprawling to the canvas! Gracie rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Cotroni finish him?!

Gracie is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gracie moves out of range of the strikes.
Gracie half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A big right from Cotroni misses.
Cotroni misses with a straight right.
Gracie takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Cotroni misses with a looping left.
Cotroni connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Oh Gracie is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

James Gracie's cut is getting worse.
Ginny Cotroni seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cotroni darts in and lands a big hook, right on the button! Gracie's legs crumble underneath him as he falls to the canvas! The ref tackles Cotroni before he gets to land any more shots to his stricken foe.
