Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dick Pawlik (ranked 534 p4p, 559 weight class) and Thomas Maeda (ranked 72 p4p, 78 weight class). Pawlik's entrance music is John Butler - Ocean . A fine choice. Maeda has chosen Submission as his entrance music. Dick Pawlik has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 13 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Dick Pawlik! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 28 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thomas Maeda! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maeda gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Maeda trying to control the position.
Pawlik postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Pawlik avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Maeda is looking for a triangle but Pawlik pushes his legs off easily.
Pawlik in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Pawlik wants to pass the guard but Maeda is keeping the position. Maeda working for a triangle but Pawlik defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pawlik trying to control the position from guard on top but Maeda is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The fighters are battling for position here. Maeda manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Pawlik throwing strikes from guard but Maeda blocks nicely. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Pawlik's corner. Maeda can't keep hold of the triangle and Pawlik manages to pass to side control! Pawlik cracks Maeda with an elbow. That is naaassty. Pawlik is working Maeda over with some ground and pound from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pawlik working away. Pawlik trying to control the action but Maeda is working from the bottom. Maeda is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Pawlik wants to take a breather but Maeda is having none of it. We've been hearing that Pawlik has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Maeda is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Maeda actively working from the bottom here. Maeda taking some punishment here, with Pawlik in his half guard. Ground and pound from Pawlik. Maeda looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Maeda looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maeda is trying to get back to full guard. Pawlik is keen to just control but Maeda is a slippery customer. Pawlik prevents Maeda from improving his position. Maeda is staying active underneath Pawlik, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Pawlik working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Pawlik doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pawlik manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Pawlik wants to pass the guard but Maeda is keeping the position. Pawlik scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Pawlik has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Pawlik with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Pawlik drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pawlik jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Maeda is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Maeda is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Dick Pawlik dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Maeda stuffs the takedown. A shot to the body from Pawlik misses and Maeda counters with a straight right hand. Maeda shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Maeda showed some decent athleticism there. Pawlik is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Maeda pulls his head out easily. Maeda prevents Pawlik from improving his position. Maeda takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Maeda works his foot free and advances to mount. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pawlik keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round. Maeda can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pawlik is looking to escape. Pawlik tries to hold on but Maeda postures up. Pawlik in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Maeda is in the full mount, landing strikes. Maeda working Pawlik over with strikes here. Maeda prevents Pawlik from getting the reversal. Maeda wants to control the pace but Pawlik is squirming around nicely. Pawlik gets back to half guard. Pawlik tries to get to full guard but Maeda has control of the leg. Pawlik is trying to maintain the position but Maeda is very close to passing his half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pawlik slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Maeda throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Pawlik keeping moving, preventing Maeda from controlling successfully. Maeda wants to pass the guard but Pawlik is keeping the position. Maeda wants to control from the top but Pawlik keeps moving. Pawlik controls Maeda momentarily but Maeda frees himself. Pawlik is controlling Maeda's posture. Pawlik looking for a guillotine here but Maeda defends easily.
Maeda got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pawlik has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Maeda has managed to get both his arms back between Pawlik's legs - danger averted.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Maeda preventing the sweep. Maeda in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Pawlik tries to land a sweep but no joy. Maeda working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Pawlik's head. Maeda trying to control but Pawlik is working from the bottom. Maeda connects with a couple of short punches. Maeda trying to control but Pawlik is working from the bottom. Pawlik is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Maeda defends well. Maeda trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Pawlik manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Thomas Maeda showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Pawlik's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round! Maeda keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. As Pawlik backs off Maeda throws a huge counter combo but Pawlik manages to avoid it all. Pawlik cracks Maeda with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Maeda throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Pawlik scores with a nice strike. Pawlik steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Maeda. Pawlik connects with a right hand. Maeda shakes it off. Dick Pawlik seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Maeda throws the left hand but Pawlik avoids the punch easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nice sprawl there from Maeda as Pawlik shoots in. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Pawlik is defended easily by Maeda. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dick Pawlik. That's going to take a lot out of him. Maeda misses with an uppercut. Pawlik saw that one coming.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice defenses there by Maeda. Pawlik tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Maeda swivels and escapes. Maeda throws a series of punches but Pawlik avoids them all with ease. Pawlik fails with the takedown. A looping hook to the body misses from Maeda. Pawlik does a little dance to reset his feet. Pawlik fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Pawlik cracks Maeda with a good jab. Maeda throws a right and a left that Pawlik avoids nicely. Pawlik misses with a body shot.
Nice sprawl there from Maeda as Pawlik shoots in. It seemed like Maeda was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pawlik gets a takedown into half guard. Maeda blocking the ground and pound attempt from Pawlik. Pawlik is thwarting Maeda's attempts to control the position. Maeda is trying to get back to full guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Pawlik missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Maeda wants to control but Pawlik is keeping busy.

Pawlik seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Pawlik throwing shots but Maeda is blocking nicely. Maeda is looking to improve his position.
Maeda wants to control but Pawlik is keeping busy and won't allow it. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Pawlik connects with a nice short shot to Maeda's temple. Maeda gets full guard. Pawlik with a nice head shot there. Maeda preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Pawlik content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Pawlik slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Pawlik connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Maeda some visible discomfort.

Pawlik landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Maeda tries to bench press Pawlik off him but Pawlik keeps the position. Pawlik scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Maeda to see if he's OK. Maeda tries to improve position but can't. Pawlik has knee on belly and moves into mount. Maeda is working to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight! Dick Pawlik showed his dominance in that final round. I think Pawlik has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
