PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Roger Michael Stanley (ranked 716 p4p, 786 weight class) and Antonio Barbosa (ranked 110 p4p, 122 weight class). Barbosa has chosen Eminem - Go to Sleep as his entrance music. Antonio Barbosa acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Roger Michael Stanley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Antonio Barbosa!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barbosa rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Stanley counters with a nice leg kick.
A lazy left from Barbosa finds it's target.

It looks like Roger Michael Stanley has been cut.
Barbosa connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Barbosa misses with a right hand
letting Stanley counter with a right hand.

It looks like Antonio Barbosa has been cut.
Barbosa with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Barbosa scores with a shot to the body.
Stanley takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Stanley keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Barbosa.
Stanley uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Barbosa.

Stanley scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Barbosa misses with a body kick.
Barbosa throws a lazy uppercut

and Stanley counters with a leg kick then a big left hand that sends Barbosa down! Stanley is looking to finish but Barbosa is intelligently defending himself.

Barbosa is rocked!
Stanley trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Stanley slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Stanley trying to control the position from guard on top but Barbosa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Barbosa is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Stanley wants to get back to full guard.
Stanley is trying to control but Barbosa manages to pass to mount!
Stanley tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Barbosa takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stanley is trying to reverse the position but instead Barbosa has taken his back - oops!
Barbosa keeps control of the position easily here as Stanley tries to buck him off.
Let's hope that Barbosa has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Barbosa is continuing to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
I really don't envy Stanley right now.
Barbosa trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Stanley doesn't escape.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Barbosa.
Yet more stalling tactics from Barbosa.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stanley breaks Barbosa's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Barbosa seems keen to control Stanley's posture.
Barbosa wants to sweep but no luck.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Antonio Barbosa dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Stanley moves out of range as Barbosa strikes.
Antonio Barbosa seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Stanley throws an overhand right that lands on Barbosa's shoulder, as Barbosa tries to avoid the shot.
Barbosa replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Stanley blocks it well.
Barbosa connects with a looping right hand.
Barbosa tries a head kick but it misses.
Barbosa has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barbosa ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Stanley moves away.
Barbosa connects with a nice looking jab.
Stanley misses with a leg kick
letting Barbosa counter with a right hand.

Barbosa lands the left hand.
Stanley uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Barbosa.
Barbosa defending well as Stanley loads up on a big left hand.
Stanley takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
A head kick misses from Barbosa.
Stanley is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Barbosa.
As Stanley backs off Barbosa throws a huge counter combo but Stanley manages to avoid it all.
Stanley takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Barbosa cracks Stanley with a right hand to the side of the head.

Barbosa misses with an uppercut
and Stanley counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Barbosa lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Stanley keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Barbosa.
An attempted straight right counter from Stanley misses the target.
Stanley looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Barbosa throws a sloppy head kick and Stanley moves out of range easily.
Stanley half committed to a counter leg kick.
Roger Michael Stanley has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Barbosa lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Stanley on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
The fighters circle momentarily. Barbosa darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Roger Michael Stanley's cut is getting worse.

Barbosa lands with a cross.
Barbosa throws a left jab followed by a right to the body, Oh Stanley colapses and takes a barrage of punches from Barbosa as he moves to mount! the ref stops the fight and Stanley is left battered and dazed whilst Barbosa and his camp cheer!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:14 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Antonio Barbosa!
An out of breath Antonio Barbosa thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
