Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Smith (ranked 521 p4p, 1155 weight class) and Nick Shamrock (ranked 73 p4p, 156 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Shamrock's choice of entrance music: One Winged Angel by The Black Mages. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, James Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 56 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nick Shamrock!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Shamrock throws a lazy uppercut
and Smith counters with a right hand to the body.
Shamrock wants to clinch up but Smith keeps it at a distance.
Smith throwing a counter right hand but Shamrock manages to avoid it.
Good standup being displayed there by Smith as he connects with a hook.
Shamrock misses with a body kick.
Shamrock looks to throw a body kick
and Smith counters with a nice uppercut.
Smith checks a leg kick.
An attempted straight right counter from Smith misses the target.
A bone on bone clash there as Smith blocks the leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith looks for a takedown but Shamrock sprawls well.
Shamrock scores with a head kick. Smith tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Shamrock scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Smith doesn't seem bothered though.
Smith avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

It looks like Nick Shamrock has been cut.
Shamrock pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
It looked like Smith was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Smith connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Horrible takedown attempt by Smith or perhaps it was just good defense by Shamrock, which made it look bad.

Some bone on bone action there as Smith checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Shamrock throws a front kick aimed at Smith's knee but Smith avoids it well.
Smith chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Shamrock can pounce on him.

It looked like Smith wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Shamrock digs a good body shot into Smith's ribs.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Shamrock throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Shamrock counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Nick Shamrock seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Shamrock throws a wild body kick that Smith sees coming a mile off.

That has opened up Nick Shamrock's cut even more.

and Smith counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Shamrock does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Shamrock takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that James Smith will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Shamrock connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Shamrock rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Smith moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
It looked like Smith was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Shamrock.
Shamrock looks to land a body kick but Smith moved away.
Smith is looking for a counter combo.
It looks like Smith has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Smith takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Smith shoots in for a takedown but Shamrock shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Smith takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Shamrock is looking to slow Smith down with leg kicks.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Shamrock.

Smith walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Smith staying out of range there.
Shamrock feints and then cracks Smith's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Smith down.
Smith slips a straight right by Shamrock.
Shamrock throws a push kick but Smith slaps the foot to one side.
Shamrock lands a nice hook to Smith's body. Smith takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Shamrock gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Smith counters with a nice double leg into side control. Shamrock won't be happy with that.
Shamrock wants to get back to his feet but Smith is dominant here and he's now got Shamrock's back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Shamrock up.
Shamrock can't escape the position.

Smith missing with punches from the back.
Smith lands punches and elbows.
Smith scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.

The cut above Nick Shamrock's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Smith throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Smith cracks Shamrock with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Shamrock from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.

Nick Shamrock's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Nick Shamrock's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). James Smith!
