Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 13 - 33 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcos Martinez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 17 - 31 - 0, fighting out of New York, Oleg Liguy! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Percy O'Donnell and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Liguy darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Liguy is trying to control. Martinez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Martinez looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Martinez is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Liguy pulls his head out easily. Liguy takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Martinez is trying to control but can't.
Liguy throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Martinez actively working from the bottom here. Martinez wants to control but Liguy is keeping busy and won't allow it. Martinez regains full guard. Nicely done. Martinez throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Liguy's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
That's one minute gone in the round. Martinez has his foot on Liguy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Liguy works his way back into a safe position though. Martinez is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Liguy is aware though and is defending well. Martinez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Liguy doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Liguy manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Liguy landing some decent shots from guard. Liguy postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Martinez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Liguy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Martinez seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Liguy is working Martinez over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Liguy lands a couple of elbows. Martinez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Liguy scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Martinez is rocked!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Liguy arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Martinez's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
