Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Cooper (ranked 742 p4p, 857 weight class) and Tinashe Chukwuma (ranked 98 p4p, 117 weight class). Cooper kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Tale of Cu Chulainn. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tinashe Chukwuma!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Percy O'Donnell.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chukwuma slips a straight right by Cooper.
Chukwuma shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Cooper eats them both and turns towards Chukwuma to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

It looks like Sam Cooper has been cut.
Cooper throws the kick towards the body but Chukwuma avoids it.
Cooper gets off balance looking for a body kick
enabling Chukwuma to counter with a crisp jab.
Cooper swings for the body but Chukwuma moves out of range.
Chukwuma getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Cooper throws the left hand but Chukwuma avoids the punch easily.

Cooper swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Nice straight punches there by Chukwuma. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Chukwuma.
Cooper tries a head kick but it misses.
Chukwuma tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cooper manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Chukwuma ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cooper tries to land a front kick but Chukwuma steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Chukwuma tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Cooper misses the jab.
Chukwuma misses with a leg kick.
Chukwuma throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Cooper's head.
Chukwuma takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Cooper shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Chukwuma as he jumps to the side.

Chukwuma connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Cooper's hands.
Cooper takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Chukwuma misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A chopping leg kick lands by Cooper.
Cooper defending well as Chukwuma loads up on a big left hand.
A nice leg kick lands there from Chukwuma.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cooper.
That kick from Chukwuma tenderised Cooper's leg. Cooper is trying to keep his angry face on.

Cooper shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Chukwuma but Chukwuma pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sam Cooper. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chukwuma scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Cooper doesn't seem bothered though.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Chukwuma, as that shot connected.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cooper lands a head kick. Chukwuma smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

It looks like Tinashe Chukwuma has been cut.
Nice jab there from Chukwuma.
Cooper throws a half hearted mid kick.
Sam Cooper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chukwuma scoring well with a low kick there.
Chukwuma lands a glancing blow to the side of Cooper's head.
Chukwuma lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Sam Cooper's cut is getting worse.
Chukwuma lands a nice looking body shot.
Chukwuma uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Cooper has time to react.
Cooper is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Chukwuma.
An inside leg kick lands from Cooper.
Chukwuma throws a push kick but Cooper slaps the foot to one side.
Chukwuma scores with a sloppy right hand. Cooper should have avoided that one.
Tinashe Chukwuma is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Chukwuma with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Cooper needs to keep his hands up - Chukwuma had a free shot at his head there.

Sam Cooper's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Cooper throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Chukwuma decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cooper's guard.
Chukwuma controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Chukwuma wants to pass the guard but Cooper is keeping the position.

Chukwuma controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Chukwuma connects with a couple of short punches.
Cooper is looking to stand up but Chukwuma isn't so interested in that idea.
Chukwuma working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Cooper has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Cooper is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Chukwuma is controlling him.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Cooper throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Chukwuma keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Chukwuma lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Chukwuma fails in his attempt to clinch.
Cooper on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Chukwuma connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Cooper momentarily.

Jeez, Sam Cooper's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
Chukwuma avoids the head kick by Cooper.
Cooper lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Chukwuma circles away quickly and effectively.
Chukwuma lands a glancing blow to the side of Cooper's head.
Chukwuma lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Chukwuma throws a body kick that misses.
Chukwuma is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Cooper had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A relieved looking Tinashe Chukwuma thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
