PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jesse Pinkman (ranked 271 p4p, 323 weight class) and Ivan Kamenev (ranked 34 p4p, 44 weight class). Pinkman comes into the arena with DLZ by TV on the Radio blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jesse Pinkman!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ivan Kamenev!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Paul Tew and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pinkman works the jab nicely.
Pinkman digs a good hook to Kamenev's body.

Kamenev closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Pinkman quickly recovers to half guard.

Kamenev is working for a kimura but Pinkman is defending it quite comfortably.

Pinkman drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Kamenev dives on top into guard.

Pinkman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kamenev swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kamenev is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Ivan Kamenev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kamenev uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Pinkman has time to react.

Pinkman shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kamenev but Kamenev pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Pinkman with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Kamenev to score with a decent uppercut.

Kamenev feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Pinkman is looking for a sweep. Kamenev is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Ivan Kamenev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Pinkman shoots in looking for a takedown but Kamenev manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Pinkman's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Kamenev shoots in but no luck this time.
Pinkman looks to throw the jab but Kamenev is out of range.
Pinkman comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Pinkman swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Kamenev.

Kamenev shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Pinkman's guard.

Pinkman throws his legs up looking for a submission but Kamenev uses it to pass to side control.

That was a close round but Jesse Pinkman did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.

Kamenev shoots in looking for a takedown. Pinkman tries to sprawl out of it but Kamenev keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pinkman manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Pinkman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kamenev doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kamenev manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
