PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Beardsmore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Micha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Micha told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dave Beardsmore!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Micha!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Micha shoots in looking for a takedown. Beardsmore tries to sprawl out of it but Micha keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Beardsmore manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Micha shoots in but no luck this time.
Beardsmore keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Dave Beardsmore has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Micha.

Micha tries to keep at a distance but Beardsmore has taken the fight into the clinch.
Micha presses Beardsmore against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Micha is trying to stall.

Micha is trying to trip Beardsmore. He has hold of a leg but Beardsmore is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Micha persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Beardsmore has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Micha is trying desperately to improve position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Dave Beardsmore just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Micha misses with a takedown attempt - Beardsmore sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Beardsmore lands an elbow that stopped Micha in his tracks for a moment.

Beardsmore is pressed up against the cage. Micha has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Beardsmore down to the mat. Beardsmore avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Beardsmore thows a body kick. Micha tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Micha changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Beardsmore tries to avoid it but Micha manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Beardsmore to the ground. Beardsmore escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Micha is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Micha shoots in for a double leg but Beardsmore sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Beardsmore digs a right hand underneath Micha's ribcage. Micha let out a lung full of air as it connected.

and Beardsmore makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Micha really felt that one!

Beardsmore postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Micha to stand up.

Micha bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Micha is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Micha is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Beardsmore pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Beardsmore shoots for a double leg takedown but Micha sprawls well. He's pushed Beardsmore's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Micha throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Horrible takedown by Micha or perhaps it was just good defense by Beardsmore which made him look bad.

John Micha has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Micha tries to bum rush Beardsmore with a series of wild strikes but Beardsmore uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Micha stuffs the takedown attempt from Beardsmore. Beardsmore gets slowly back to his feet.

Well Beardsmore has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
