PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Martin Ferg (ranked 4847 p4p, 5489 weight class) and Junior Johnson (ranked 515 p4p, 539 weight class). Ferg comes to the cage accompanied by The Purge. The key to victory for Martin Ferg has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Martin Ferg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Junior Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Paul Tew and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ferg wants to clinch but Johnson slips to the side

and Johnson counters with a single leg into guard. Ferg didn't expect that.
Johnson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

We've been hearing good reports from Ferg's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Johnson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Ferg had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Johnson defends it easily.
Johnson is looking to work some ground and pound but Ferg has wrist control.
Johnson has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad MMA London. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Johnson is landing with some decent strikes but Ferg is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Johnson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Ferg tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Johnson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Johnson looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Ferg moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Johnson keeps the fight on the outside.
And Johnson tries to counter it with a takedown but Ferg pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Johnson appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Ferg throws a combination. Johnson tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Ferg is breathing heavily.
Ferg dives in for a single leg takedown but Johnson sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

A frustrated look appears on Ferg's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Johnson wants a takedown but no success here.
Johnson has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ferg after a bit of a struggle.

A knee to the head by Ferg.
A short right from Ferg on the inside.
Ferg is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Martin Ferg has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Junior Johnson.
Johnson has Ferg pressed against the cage, preventing Ferg from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Johnson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ferg smiles and moves away.

and Johnson counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Ferg!
Johnson is putting a hurting on Ferg here, landing some big shots from side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Junior Johnson dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

And Johnson tries to counter it with a takedown but Ferg pushes his down on his head and steps out.

so Johnson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Ferg utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Junior Johnson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Johnson stays in close to Ferg's body and controls the position.

Ferg has his foot on Johnson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Johnson works his way back into a safe position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Johnson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Johnson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Johnson counters with a body kick.
Ferg misses with the body kick

and Johnson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ferg won't be happy with that.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ferg, who protects the arm well.

Johnson stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Ferg shoots for a takedown but Johnson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ferg escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Johnson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Johnson cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Ferg has left one of his arms exposed and Johnson doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Ferg screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Junior Johnson!
In his post fight interview, Junior Johnson started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
The defeated Martin Ferg had this to say: 'That was a tought fight, My head wasn't there and I couldn't get into it properly, props to my opponent but I feel like I'm still a better fighter than him, just unlucky'.
