PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hector Ramos (ranked 2642 p4p, 2562 weight class) and Terrance Harris (ranked 344 p4p, 337 weight class). Terrance Harris is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hector Ramos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Terrance Harris!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harris stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Harris wants it to stay on the feet.
Ramos misses with a takedown
and Harris counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Ramos closes this distance looking for a takedown but Harris circles away.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Harris! But no joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hector Ramos. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Harris misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ramos.

Ramos closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ramos lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ramos drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ramos jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Harris has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Roosters Coop. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Harris bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ramos's guard.

Harris must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Harris makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Ramos is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Harris is aware though and is defending well.
Harris wants to stand but Ramos has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Ramos is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Ramos escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Harris gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Harris got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ramos has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Harris has managed to get both his arms back between Ramos's legs - danger averted.
Harris is pushing down on Ramos's leg trying to pass to half guard. Ramos is fighting to maintain full guard but Harris has managed to sneak the leg through.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A little jabbing left from Harris on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Ramos takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Harris pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Ramos back to the cage. Harris follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Harris keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Harris lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Harris scores with a jab. Ramos acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Harris displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ramos.

Harris fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Harris throws a series of punches but Ramos avoids them all with ease.
Harris lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Ramos goes for a double leg but Harris avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Harris continues to drive forward.

Ramos changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Harris tries to avoid it but Ramos manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Harris to the ground. Harris escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Harris throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Ramos on the side of the head.

Ramos sets himself, and Harris steps forward looking for the clinch! Ramos avoids it this time.
Ramos shoots for a takedown but Harris saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Harris fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Ramos looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Harris has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Harris works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Harris lands a right hook to the body.
Harris lands a nice looking body shot.

Harris clinches up with Ramos and pushes him back against the cage.

Harris continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up.

and Harris counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Ramos moves forwards but Harris connects with a nice, crisp jab.

and Harris counters with a straight right hand.
Ramos tries to score a power double leg takedown but Harris sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ramos somewhat.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Terrance Harris showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Harris takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Ramos is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Harris frees his head nicely. Oh but Ramos has switched to an armbar! Harris is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
