Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rene Lafayette (ranked 182 p4p, 460 weight class) and Wilmerr Fudd (ranked 29 p4p, 70 weight class). Lafayette's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Erasure - Always. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rene Lafayette!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Wilmerr Fudd!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lafayette lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Lafayette throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Fudd shoots in and drives through. Lafayette sprawls well.
Lafayette throwing a counter right hand but Fudd manages to avoid it.
Fudd doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Lafayette fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Fudd manages to avoid it.

A looping hook to the body misses from Lafayette. Fudd does a little dance to reset his feet.
And Fudd tries to counter it with a takedown but Lafayette pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Fudd shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Lafayette cracks Fudd with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Fudd lunges at Lafayette with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Lafayette's hand.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

It looks like Wilmerr Fudd has been cut.
Lafayette keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Rene Lafayette has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wilmerr Fudd.

Fudd takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Lafayette feints a jab promting Fudd to slip. Lafayette then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Fudd slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Fudd is rocked!
Fudd steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Lafayette.
Fudd throws out a counter right but Lafayette avoids it with no problem.
Lafayette connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Fudd's hands.

Fudd is still on wobbly legs! Can Lafayette finish him?
Lafayette thuds his right hand into Fudd's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Fudd ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lafayette moves away.

Lafayette cracks Fudd with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Lafayette has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Fudd to stand back up!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lafayette lands a big uppercut and Fudd crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Fudd looks OK. Lafayette waves Fudd back to his feet!
Lafayette lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Fudd at a distance.
Rene Lafayette is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lafayette misses with an uppercut.
Fudd steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Lafayette.
Fudd seems to have recovered his senses.

and Fudd counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Lafayette throws a shot to the body.
Lafayette throws out a loose jab but Fudd uses good head movement to avoid it.
A slow jab from Lafayette misses its intended target.
Fudd will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
We've been informed that Fudd has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Lafayette throws a lazy right hand but Fudd sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Fudd uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Lafayette.
It seemed like Fudd was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Fudd throws the left hand but Lafayette avoids the punch easily.
Lafayette lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Fudd doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Lafayette connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Fudd's hands.
Lafayette lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Rene Lafayette seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lafayette gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Lafayette lands a left hand that snaps the head of Fudd backwards.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lafayette gets through Fudd's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Fudd is trying to drag Lafayette to the mat but Lafayette just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Lafayette lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Fudd backwards.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lafayette misses with a shot to the kidneys.
A right handed body shot lands from Lafayette.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Lafayette.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Lafayette's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Fudd fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lafayette avoids it really well and circles away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lafayette closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Nice body punch from Lafayette - that landed with a thud.
Lafayette is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Fudd can do to turn this around?

Lafayette has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Fudd regains guard immediately.

Fudd is trying to escape the mount but Lafayette keeps good control and instead manages to take Fudd's back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lafayette had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fudd defends it easily.

Fudd is fighting to break Lafayette's control of his arms but Lafayette is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Fudd trying to control but Lafayette is working from the bottom.
Fudd stands up over Lafayette, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Lafayette seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Rene Lafayette overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Fudd wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lafayette keeps working.
Fudd thows a huge punch but Lafayette dodges it nicely.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Fudd lands a nice short elbow.

Fudd is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Lafayette pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Lafayette is pressed up against the cage. Fudd has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Lafayette down to the mat. Lafayette avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rene Lafayette.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lafayette, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
