PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bono Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Bean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bean has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Joe Bean is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bono Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Bean!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Donald Grub and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bean fails with the takedown.
Smith lands a left and a right that sends Bean crashing to the canvas! Smith dives into mount looking to finish!


It looks like Joe Bean has been cut.
Bean looks gassed!
Smith controlling the pace for now.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Bono Smith just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Smith just misses with a punch to the body.
Bean avoids a punch combination nicely.
Smith cracks Bean with a good jab.
Bean shoots for a double leg takedown but Smith sprawls well. He's pushed Bean's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Smith rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bean moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A nice combination there by Smith.
Bean walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.


That has opened up Joe Bean's cut even more.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smith misses with the combination.

Smith closes the distance and clinches.

Smith escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Smith drives through with a takedown into guard.

Bean looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Smith gets to his feet - Bean follows without any prompting.
Smith will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Danga de danga de dang - Smith scores with a four punch combination!
Smith jabs at Bean's body.
Smith scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Smith lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
No luck for Bean with that takedown attempt.
Bono Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Bean.
Bean avoids a punch combination nicely.

Bean on the wrong end of a nice hook.

Smith drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Smith decides to stand back up. Smith steps back and let's Bean get back to his feet.
Smith circles away from the clinch attempt
and Smith counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Bean thinking.
Smith looks to land a combination but Bean avoids it well.
Bean ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Bean doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Smith counters with a right hand to the body.

Smith swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Bean.
Bean gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
enabling Smith to counter with a crisp jab.
Smith throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Bean misses with a takedown
and Bean takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Smith tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bean was well out of range. Poor timing from Smith.
Smith shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bean pinned against the cage. Bean gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Smith misses with a series of wild punches.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Smith lands a nice looking body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bono Smith dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Joe Bean's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Smith looks to land a combination. Bean sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Smith scores with a hook to the body. Bean takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Smith clobbers Bean with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Bean slips a jab and a cross from Smith.
Smith throws a body punch but Bean moves out of range.
Bean moves forwards but Smith connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Bean shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Joe Bean is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bean drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Smith digs a good hook to Bean's body.
Bono Smith is winning the standup battle so far.
Smith lands a nice shot to the body.
Bono Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bean walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Smith checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Smith bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bean tries to bench press Smith off him but Smith keeps the position.

Bean prevents Smith from moving into mount.

Smith has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Smith is looking to wear down Bean with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Smith throws the left hand but Bean avoids the punch easily.
Smith is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bean can do to turn this around?

Smith decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Bean makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

and Smith makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Smith thows a body shot but no joy.
Bean is trying desperately to land a takedown but Smith is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Bean.

Smith knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bean on the ground.

A bone on bone clash there as Smith blocks the leg kick.
Bean avoids the body shot from Smith.
Smith lands a nice shot to the body.
Smith is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Smith lands a body shot.
A punch combination from Smith misses.
Smith throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Bean shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Smith but Smith pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Smith throws a lazy right hand but Bean sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Smith lands a jab to Bean's midsection.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt.

Bean shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Bean is looking to stand up but Smith won't let him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bean stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bono Smith overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Smith wriggles free and stands up.
Bean shoots and misses
and Smith counters with a nice body shot.
Bono Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Bean.
Smith swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Smith throws a body punch but Bean moves out of range.
Bean on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Bean avoids the body shot from Smith.

Smith gets a takedown into half guard.

Bean is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Smith's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Smith's back!

Bean is persistently looking for the submission but Smith is defending it well.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bean is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Smith slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Smith stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Bean to get to his feet.
Smith lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Smith fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Bean walks into a left hand.
The crowd cheers as Smith lands an impressive looking overhand right. Bean doesn't seem phased though.
Nice uppercut lands for Smith. That snapped Bean's head back.

Bean sneaks back into half guard.
Bean wants to get back to his feet.
Bean works his way to full guard. Good work.

Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Bean is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smith wants to stand but Bean is controlling his posture from full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Bean lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Smith!
Smith is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Joe Bean has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bono Smith is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Smith is trying to escape the mount.

Bean is going olschool here, as he tries to force Smith to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Smith shrugs it off.

Bean goes for an armbar but Smith turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Smith.

Bono Smith showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Smith has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
