PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Abdo Farah (ranked 23618 p4p, 23684 weight class) and Kron Gracie (ranked 639 p4p, 647 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Abdo Farah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kron Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Dean Styles and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Gracie finds it's way through Farah's defenses.
Gracie fails in his attempt to clinch.
Gracie catches Farah with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Gracie swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Farah takes a swing at Gracie's ribcage but misses.
Gracie tries to clinch
letting Farah counter with a right hand.
Farah misses with a hook. Gracie ducked under it nicely.
Gracie looks for a takedown but Farah sprawls well.
Gracie fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Farah throws out a loose jab but Gracie uses good head movement to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Farah fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gracie manages to avoid it.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Gracie has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Gracie gets a takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gracie seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Farah does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie passes to side control.
Gracie tries to advance to mount but can't.
Gracie taking a breather here.

Gracie swings around for an armbar but Farah sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Gracie's guard.
Farah slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Gracie has an active guard here but Farah has managed to pass into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gracie is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Gracie slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Gracie is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Farah stopping the sweep attempt from Gracie.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kron Gracie will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Farah is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gracie.
Gracie takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Gracie throws a body shot but no joy.
Farah swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Gracie counters with a stiff right hand.
Gracie jabs Farah to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Gracie gets a clinch.
Gracie blocking some punches.

Gracie turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Gracie manages to end up in side control.

Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Gracie looking to control but instead Farah has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Farah is looking to improve his position.
Farah knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground.
Farah is controlling Gracie's position as best he can from this difficult position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Farah is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold.

Gracie is looking for submissions but instead, Farah has regained full guard.
Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Farah swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Farah keeping moving, preventing Gracie from controlling successfully.
Farah can't keep his opponent in guard - Gracie advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Farah makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Farah.
Gracie controlling from the top position.

Gracie drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Farah dives on top into guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gracie looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kron Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Gracie lands a jab to Farah's midsection.
Abdo Farah has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
We've been told by Farah's head coaches at King's Cross MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Gracie swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Farah.
Gracie chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Farah can pounce on him.
Farah takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Farah thows a left - swing and a miss!

Gracie rushes Farah and presses him up against the cage.

Farah escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gracie throws a body punch but Farah moves out of range.
Gracie has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Farah looks to land a right hand but Gracie moved out of range.
Farah walks into a stiff left hand from Gracie.

Gracie moves into range and clinches up with Farah.

Gracie breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Gracie throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Farah on the side of the head.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Gracie gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Gracie lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Gracie can't find room to land a body shot as Farah controls the action.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Farah misses with some punches.
Gracie digs a right hand underneath Farah's ribcage. Farah let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Farah's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Gracie cracks a nice hook into Farah's ribs.
Gracie thuds his right hand into Farah's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Farah throws a body shot but no joy.
Farah needs to keep his hands up - Gracie had a free shot at his head there.
Kron Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Farah misses with a hook. Gracie ducked under it nicely.
A countering left hand to the body from Gracie misses.
Abdo Farah is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gracie lands a nice hook to Farah's body. Farah takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Farah throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Farah misses with an uppercut.
Gracie takes a swing at Farah's ribcage but misses.
Farah pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Gracie scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Farah takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gracie scores with a hook.
Farah on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Farah ducks right into an uppercut from Gracie.
Gracie misses with a shot to the body
and Farah counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Farah misses with a body punch
and Gracie counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Gracie closes the distance and clinches up with Farah, looking for a takedown. Gracie pushes Farah against the cage but Farah circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Farah misses with a series of wild punches.
Farah takes a body punch but keeps moving.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gracie comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Farah takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Gracie darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kron Gracie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Gracie has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
