PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Madi Mattressback (ranked 3168 p4p, 2780 weight class) and Minerva Wulf (ranked 205 p4p, 173 weight class). Mattressback comes to the cage accompanied by Bad Girl. Wulf is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Sanctus Dominus. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Madi Mattressback!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minerva Wulf!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Columbo Gatti and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mattressback closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Wulf's guard.
Mattressback is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Wulf pulls Mattressback in close to his closed guard and prevents Mattressback from doing any damage or advancing position.
Mattressback is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Mattressback stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wulf swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mattressback trying to control but Wulf is working from the bottom.

Wulf keeping full guard, as Mattressback tries to pass.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Wulf looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mattressback is one step ahead there.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Mattressback slips under a jab from Wulf.
Mattressback ducks under a wild hook from Wulf.
Madi Mattressback seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mattressback tries for a takedown but Wulf sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mattressback takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Mattressback uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Wulf.
Mattressback shoots in but Wulf avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Mattressback seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mattressback closes the distance and clinches up with Wulf, looking for a takedown. Mattressback pushes Wulf against the cage but Wulf circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Madi Mattressback. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wulf keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Mattressback.
Wulf is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Mattressback will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Mattressback taking a break here but Wulf is having none of it and regains half guard.
Wulf is trying to get back to full guard.
Wulf trying to control from the bottom.
Mattressback prevents Wulf from improving his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Wulf is looking to control Mattressback's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Wulf avoid being mounted?
Wulf flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Wulf is looking for a sweep. Mattressback is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Mattressback closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Wulf to the mat! Wulf manages to get full guard.
Wulf is trying to keep Mattressback in close.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wulf is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Madi Mattressback dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Mattressback doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Wulf counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Mattressback shoots in looking for a takedown but Wulf manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mattressback's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Wulf comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Mattressback shoots in for a double leg but Wulf sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Madi Mattressback. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mattressback looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Wulf let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wulf lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A looping hook to the body misses from Wulf. Mattressback does a little dance to reset his feet.
Mattressback will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
It seemed like Wulf was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Wulf has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Mattressback is landing a low percentage of strikes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wulf scores with a sloppy right hand. Mattressback should have avoided that one.
Mattressback doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Wulf counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Mattressback fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Wulf to the ground. Mattressback is now in Wulf's guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Wulf holds on and takes a little breather.
Mattressback stands and throws Wulf's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Wulf struggling a bit here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wulf is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Wulf moves into full guard.
Wulf controls Mattressback momentarily but Mattressback frees himself.
Mattressback passes into half guard.

Wulf is defending against the submission attempts here by Mattressback.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wulf wants to improve his position but Mattressback is controlling well.

Mattressback is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Wulf makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Wulf.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Wulf wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Wulf wants to sweep here but Mattressback controlling him for the moment.
Mattressback wants to pass the guard but Wulf is keeping the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wulf connects with a single shot there.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Minerva Wulf showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Mattressback tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Wulf swivels and escapes.
Mattressback shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Wulf as he avoids it easily.

Wulf gets caught napping as Mattressback dives in and scores a takedown. Wulf manages to retain guard.
Mattressback wants to pass the guard but Wulf is keeping the position.
Wulf lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Wulf lands a couple of digs.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mattressback has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Wulf should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Mattressback has tightened it up now! Wulf should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Madi Mattressback!
After the fight, Madi Mattressback was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
