PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rodolfo Viera (ranked 24449 p4p, 5445 weight class) and John Milles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rodolfo Viera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Milles!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Viera looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Milles wants to control but Viera is keeping busy.
Viera perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Viera passes to side control.

Viera decides to stand up, so the ref orders Milles to his feet.
Viera shoots in looking for a takedown. Milles tries to sprawl out of it but Viera keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Milles manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Milles throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Viera tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Milles is in Viera's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Milles postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Viera is controlling Milles's posture.
Milles really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Viera. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Viera continues to stall.
Milles looking to sit in guard and control but Viera gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Milles working a defensive guard but Viera passes into half guard.
Viera missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Viera thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Viera passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Milles!
Viera thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Milles tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Viera sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Viera throws some wild stikes that Milles manages to avoid easily.
Viera has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Viera stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Viera stuffs the takedown attempt from Milles. Milles gets slowly back to his feet.

Viera fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Milles to the ground. Viera is now in Milles's guard.
Viera showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Viera throws a big right hand that misses.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Viera slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Viera passes Milles's left leg - he's now in half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Rodolfo Viera dominated that round.
That's time! Viera's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Milles throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Viera.
Milles fails in his attempt to clinch.

Viera manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Milles on his heels. He'll look to pass Milles's guard now, I'm sure.
Milles wants to get back to his feet but Viera passes into half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Viera in particular looking to stall.
Milles tries to get to full guard but Viera has control of the leg.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Viera content to control rather than advance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Viera uses his free foot to push down on Milles's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Milles.

Viera throws some wild stikes that Milles manages to avoid easily.
Viera sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Viera tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Viera prevents Milles from getting the reversal.
Viera takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Viera landing punches.

Viera stands up from mount. Strange move.
Viera dodges the punch combination from Milles.
Milles is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Viera tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Milles manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Viera darts in and clinches Milles up against the cage.
Viera looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Milles pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Milles shoots for a takedown but Viera saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Viera seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Milles.
Milles fails with an attempt to clinch.

Viera drives through with a takedown into Milles's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Milles wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Viera manages to pass to side control.

Viera thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Rodolfo Viera overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Viera passes to full mount!
Viera is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Milles can do to turn this around?
Milles holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Viera tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Viera looking to isolate an arm here. Milles doesn't see it coming and as Viera extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Viera!
