This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the bantamweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 5 losses; Zhang Jun! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 11 wins and 22 losses; Thad Thayer! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Thiago Cunha and Leandro Rodrigues.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Jun decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Jun (2) vs (0) Thayer Jun is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Thayer doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Jun. Thayer looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Thayer is in trouble now - Jun has advanced to mount! Score +3 for passing guard: Jun (5) vs (0) Thayer Thayer tries to hold on but Jun pushes him away. Jun trying to control but Thayer is having none of it. Jun goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Thayer is on top in guard.
Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Jun (5) vs (2) Thayer We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jun has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Thayer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Thayer wants to control from the top but Jun keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jun had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Thayer defends it easily. Thayer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jun has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Thayer has managed to get both his arms back between Jun's legs - danger averted. Jun is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Jun looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Thayer wants to control from the top but Jun keeps moving. Thayer looking to pass the guard. Thayer trying to control the position from guard on top but Jun is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jun is pulling down on Thayer's head. It's preventing any offense from Thayer, at least for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jun throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Jun definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Thayer looking to pass the guard. Jun has his foot on Thayer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Thayer works his way back into a safe position though. Jun is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Thayer rolls with it to try and escape but Jun cranks on the arm and Thayer is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
