Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rex Gunn (ranked 935 p4p, 2365 weight class) and Vladimir Tomcic (ranked 108 p4p, 238 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rex Gunn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vladimir Tomcic!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Ren Mimura and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gunn connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Tomcic momentarily.
Tomcic throws an overhand right that lands on Gunn's shoulder, as Gunn tries to avoid the shot.
Tomcic shoots in and gets a takedown into Gunn's guard.
Tomcic trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Tomcic keeps trying to improve his position.
Tomcic is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Gunn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tomcic doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tomcic manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gunn is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Tomcic defends well.
Tomcic passes Gunn's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Tomcic seems to be looking for submissions.

Gunn is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Tomcic has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Gunn defend it? Tomcic steps over the head and cranks it - Gunn is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Tomcic!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:14 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Vladimir Tomcic!
Vladimir Tomcic really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Conviction logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
