PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Billy Bob Cooter (ranked 3630 p4p, 1963 weight class) and James Gracie (ranked 75 p4p, 39 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Billy Bob Cooter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Ben Watson and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cooter but Cooter pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Cooter changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Gracie looks to score with a jab to the body but Cooter is just out of range.
Gracie closes the distance and clinches up with Cooter, looking for a takedown. Gracie pushes Cooter against the cage but Cooter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Cooter tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gracie swivels and escapes.
Gracie drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Cooter defends it well.
Cooter shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gracie as he avoids it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie is trying hard to land a takedown here. Cooter sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Billy Bob Cooter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Gracie.
Nice takedown defense from Cooter. No joy for Gracie on that attempt.
James Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cooter throws a hook but Gracie blocks it.

Gracie dives in for a single leg takedown but Cooter sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

and Cooter counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gracie won't be happy with that.
Cooter will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gracie has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cooter is working away from the top position though.

Cooter is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Gracie sees it coming and defends easily.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Cooter not doing much here.
Gracie is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cooter's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cooter's back!

Cooter decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Gracie wants to control but Cooter is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Cooter is working for an americana but Gracie has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Cooter was thinking about the submission.

Cooter drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gracie looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gracie looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gracie!

Cooter takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Gracie is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cooter knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Gracie trying to control the position but Cooter is working away.
Cooter wants to control but Gracie postures up.
Gracie scores with a couple of short elbows.
Cooter is looking to regain half guard here but Gracie keeps moving and retains side control.

James Gracie has got the better of the ground game so far.
Gracie is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Let's hope that Gracie has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Gracie wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cooter, who protects the arm well.

The referee asks Gracie politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Gracie prefers to stall for the moment though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cooter can't do much from the bottom here.
Cooter is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Gracie is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cooter keeps working.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

James Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Gracie closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cooter's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gracie looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Cooter with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Gracie winds up and cracks Cooter with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Cooter wants to control the action here but instead Gracie manages to pass to full mount!

Gracie has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Cooter tries to control the position but Gracie now has his back.

Gracie is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Cooter has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Gracie has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Cooter taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Gracie doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). James Gracie!
Our winner, James Gracie, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
