PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between kevin mckinney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Steele (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). mckinney comes to the cage accompanied by kiss my country ass. mckinney is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Joseph Steele told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joseph Steele!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Chad Campbell and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
mckinney shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Steele pinned against the cage. Steele gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
mckinney is breathing heavily.
Steele closes this distance looking for a takedown but mckinney circles away.

Steele gets the takedown into side control.

Steele has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Steele closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Well, if Steele is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Steele working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Steele trying to control but mckinney is having none of it.

Steele goes for an armbar but mckinney turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from mckinney.

Steele had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. mckinney is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Steele Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take mckinney's back instead.

Steele is hanging on to mckinney's back as he tries to escape.

Steele working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
mckinney trying to control the position but Steele manages to sink in the hooks.
Steele wants to control but mckinney is keeping busy.

Steele is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. mckinney defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

A lull in the action here.
Steele loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can mckinney hold on?
Steele lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Steele.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


mckinney tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Steele paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Steele throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around mckinney's waist but mckinney gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Steele off to one side.

and Steele counters with a nice double leg into side control. mckinney won't be happy with that.
mckinney tries to buck Steele off but Steele is having none of it.
Steele lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Steele is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. mckinney knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Steele cracks mckinney with a big right hand but mckinney just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

mckinney on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Steele working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Steele tries to advance to mount but mckinney denies him.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Steele is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. mckinney knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Steele wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by mckinney, who protects the arm well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
mckinney tries to get back to half guard but can't.
mckinney really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
You can see the frustration on mckinney's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
mckinney prevents Steele from improving position.

Steele thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Steele is working to tighten is grip on mckinney's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. mckinney has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Steele is really squeezing tight and eventually mckinney passes out! Steele breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Joseph Steele!
