PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Will Jackson (ranked 1270 p4p, 1457 weight class) and Stuart Burrows (ranked 66 p4p, 72 weight class). Burrows is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Baba O'Riley. Stuart Burrows is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Will Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Stuart Burrows!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, David Schapiro and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson throws a jab but it's blocked by Burrows.
Jackson misses with a wild combination.
Good standup being displayed there by Burrows as he connects with a hook.
Burrows scores with a jab to the jaw.
Burrows comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Jackson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Jackson jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Burrows avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Jackson takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Jackson thows a left - swing and a miss!
Jackson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
We've been told by Jackson's head coaches at The Proving Grounds that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Burrows walks into a left hand.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Burrows cracks Jackson with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Jackson takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Jackson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Burrows connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Jackson's hands.
No luck for Burrows with that takedown attempt.
Jackson throws a hook but Burrows avoids it easily.
A nice side step and Burrows releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Burrows just misses with a punch to the body.
Jackson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Burrows moves out of range of the strikes.

Burrows decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Burrows wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jackson keeps working.

Burrows is looking for a kimura but Jackson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Burrows to get the leverage.

Burrows is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Jackson to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Jackson shrugs it off.
Jackson is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Jackson trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Burrows takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Well, with Burrows on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Jackson is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
Jackson prevents Burrows from getting a body triangle.
Jackson is trying to get back to his feet but Burrows has full control of the position and if anything, Jackson has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Burrows is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Jackson knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Jackson for a finish.

Jackson looks to throw the jab but Burrows is out of range.

Burrows appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Burrows tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jackson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Burrows somewhat.

Burrows has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Burrows's corner calls for a 1-2. Burrows obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Jackson is staying active underneath Burrows, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Stuart Burrows will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Jackson lands with a hook. Burrows tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Burrows lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Jackson throws an off balance right hand
and Burrows counters with a left to the body.
Jackson misses with a right hand

and Burrows counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Burrows slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Jackson regains half guard there - taking advantage of Burrows's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Burrows tries to pass to full mount but Jackson defends it.

Jackson pushes Burrows off but Burrows dives into side control.
Burrows trying to control the position but Jackson is working away.

Burrows tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Burrows has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Jackson wants to get back to his feet.
Burrows tries to move into full mount but can't pass Jackson's legs.
Will Jackson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jackson is not content to let Burrows control the position.
Jackson gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Burrows is working for a guillotine from mount but Jackson frees his head quite easily.

Burrows has control of Jackson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jackson regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Burrows is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Jackson has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Jackson!
Burrows wants to sweep but no luck.

Burrows working a defensive guard but Jackson manages to pass into side control anyway.
Burrows tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jackson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Stuart Burrows has got the better of the ground game so far.
Burrows manages to get to full guard.
Burrows has a closed guard, preventing Jackson from standing up.
Stuart Burrows is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Burrows pulls Jackson in close to prevent any damage.

Stuart Burrows comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Burrows has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
