Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Cox (ranked 5535 p4p, 24288 weight class) and Shaka Zulu (ranked 548 p4p, 597 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Cox! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shaka Zulu! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cox wants to clinch and Cox takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
It looks like John Cox has been cut. Cox looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Zulu! But no joy. Cox tries to clinch but Zulu is having none of it. A little jabbing left from Zulu on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Cox tries to close the distance and clinch up but Zulu swats him away and circles back towards the center. It seemed like Zulu was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Cox tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Zulu paws at him with a jab and circles away. Cox throws a hook but Zulu blocks it. Zulu throws out a counter right but Cox avoids it with no problem. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cox lands a jab to Zulu's midsection. Left hook, right uppercut from Cox. Cox scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cox working the ground and pound but Zulu is defending the strikes. Cox in side control, throwing shots but Zulu defends. Zulu is trying to get back to half guard. Cox throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Zulu parries the strikes from Cox easily there. Cox is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Zulu to escape.
Zulu tries to buck Cox off but Cox is having none of it. Cox has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Zulu can do anything to dispel that myth. Zulu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cox. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Zulu managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Cox.
Zulu can't do much from the bottom here. Zulu tries to improve position but can't. Zulu is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.

Cox wants to lay and pray for a moment but Zulu keeps working. Cox throws a strike aimed at the side of Zulu's head but Zulu avoids it well. Zulu is positioning himself to get back to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cox misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Cox working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cox working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Zulu tries to buck Cox off but Cox is having none of it. Cox looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Both fighters take a look at the clock. Cox throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Zulu works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. Cox throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Cox trying to control from half guard but Zulu is working away. Cox not landing any meaningful shots this time. Zulu tries to roll over but Cox keeps him under control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cox is looking for a kimura but Zulu is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cox to get the leverage. Cox not landing any meaningful shots this time. Zulu is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cox scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Zulu wants to get back to full guard. Cox throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. The fighters are battling for position here. Zulu manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Zulu tries to land a sweep but no joy. Zulu wants to get back to his feet but Cox is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Cox throws a big right hand that misses. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Cox throws a big elbow that misses. Zulu is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Cox loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Zulu takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Cox fails in his attempt to clinch. Zulu looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Cox connects with a nice looking jab.

John Cox's cut is getting worse. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. A momentary lapse in concentration from Zulu enables Cox to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Zulu manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Zulu holds on and takes a little breather. Zulu working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Cox. Zulu seems keen to control Cox's posture. Cox preventing the sweep. Zulu wants to get back to his feet but Cox is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Cox not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Zulu pulls Cox in close to his closed guard and prevents Cox from doing any damage or advancing position. Zulu throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Cox trying to control the position from guard on top but Zulu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Cox throws a body shot but no joy. Zulu looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Cox moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Cox with a lazy takedown attempt and Zulu counters with a straight right hand. Cox gets in close and instigates a clinch. Zulu leaning his opponent against the cage. Zulu breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

And that's the end of the fight! John Cox showed his dominance in that final round. Well Cox has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
