PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Iso Paa (ranked 2180 p4p, 1494 weight class) and Grow Up (ranked 280 p4p, 195 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Iso Paa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Grow Up!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
A head kick from Paa lands but Up takes it in his stride.
Up has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Up there as he acknowledges the shot.
Paa throws a jab when Up was well out of range.
Paa has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Räkälä in the buildup to the fight.
Paa jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Up drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Paa defends it well.
Paa darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Up counters with a shoot takedown. Paa fights it but they end up in guard.

Up trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Up trying to control the position from guard on top but Paa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Paa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Up doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Up manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Paa is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Up defends well.

Up got a little sloppy there for a moment and Paa has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Up has managed to get both his arms back between Paa's legs - danger averted.

Paa throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Up escapes and throws Paa's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Up seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Paa is staying active underneath Up, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Up moves out of range of the strikes.
Paa's jab looks to have found its range, popping Up under the eye.

Up uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Paa.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Iso Paa.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Paa, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
