CWC 280 PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 12 wins and 17 losses; Darian Cruz! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 2 losses; Joe Tidd! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Daniel Cesar and Luis Engracia.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Cruz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Cruz (2) vs (0) Tidd Tidd is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Cruz jumps into side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Cruz (5) vs (0) Tidd Tidd is looking for a sweep. Cruz wants to control but Tidd is keeping him busy. Cruz tries for a kimura but Tidd is defending well. Tidd is positioning himself to get back to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cruz tries to advance to mount but Tidd denies him. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cruz working away. Cruz has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cruz taking a breather here. Tidd is looking for a sweep. Tidd is being controlled here. Cruz looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Cruz working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Cruz is looking to take a break and control but Tidd is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tidd is looking to reverse the position. Cruz is working to tighten his grip on Tidd's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Tidd has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Cruz is really squeezing tight and eventually Tidd passes out! Cruz breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
