This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the bantamweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Miguel Harper! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 8 wins and 17 losses; Jose Pacheco! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Thiago Cunha and Emerson Jorge.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Pacheco doesn't manage to clinch there - Harper circles away.
As Pacheco tries to get set, Harper tries to push him back and clinch up but Pacheco manages to avoid the attempt. Pacheco is looking to clinch. Pacheco is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Harper closes the distance and pushes Pacheco back into the cage. Harper lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Harper stalling. Harper's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Pacheco wants to control but Harper is keeping busy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Harper is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pacheco is just riding it out for now. Harper eventually gives up the hold. Pacheco is trying to control but can't.
Pacheco is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Pacheco moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Harper's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's six minutes gone in the round. Harper is staying tight to Pacheco's torso, preventing him from escaping. Harper working away. The referee asks Harper politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Harper prefers to stall for the moment though. Pacheco is trying to improve his position. Harper controls the position. Harper gets to mount! Pacheco was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Pacheco looks out of his depth in this position - he's holding on tight. Pacheco tries to hold on but Harper postures up. Harper is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Pacheco has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Pacheco! That's eight minutes gone in the round. Harper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pacheco swivels though and keeps the full guard. Pacheco wants to sweep but no luck. Harper trying to control the position from guard on top but Pacheco is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Harper sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Harper showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Harper has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Harper wants to pass the guard but Pacheco is keeping the position.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Pacheco not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Harper is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Pacheco has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Harper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pacheco swivels though and keeps the full guard. Pacheco not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Pacheco wants to sweep here but Harper controlling him for the moment. Harper trying to control but Pacheco is working from the bottom. Harper is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Harper wants to pass the guard but Pacheco is keeping the position. Pacheco keeping moving, preventing Harper from controlling successfully. Pacheco manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Harper manages to get himself to full guard.

That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Harper pulls Pacheco in close to prevent any damage. Pacheco drops back looking for a leg! Harper is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Harper manages to kick Pacheco off! Pacheco jumps back into Harper's guard. Pacheco looking to sit in guard and control but Harper gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Harper (11) vs (4) Pacheco Harper not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Harper postures up.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Harper trying to control but Pacheco is working from the bottom. Harper slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Harper trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Harper is stalling in the full guard. Pacheco looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Pacheco looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Harper puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Harper controlling the action here. Pacheco has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Harper is working away from the top position though. Pacheco might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Harper haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Harper looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
And that's the end of the fight! Harper takes the fight on points by 11 to 4. An out of breath Miguel Harper thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career. |
