Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bengt Strom (ranked 2115 p4p, 3195 weight class) and Shinya Aoki (ranked 249 p4p, 355 weight class). Aoki has chosen Shinya Aoki as his entrance music. Shinya Aoki told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bengt Strom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinya Aoki!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Chad Campbell and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aoki fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Strom, pushing him back against the cage.
Strom gets a trip takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Aoki holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Strom throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Aoki was covering up waiting for the punch and Strom finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Aoki felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Let's hope that Aoki has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Bengt Strom overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Aoki isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Strom stacks Aoki on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Strom!

Strom seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Aoki does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Strom fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Aoki sprawls well initially but Strom persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Aoki has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Strom. Oh but Aoki has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Strom goes limp - he's gone! Aoki jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
