PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ruedi Hasler (ranked 4267 p4p, 5276 weight class) and Mats Runesson (ranked 501 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ruedi Hasler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mats Runesson!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Runesson lands a body shot.

Runesson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hasler's guard.
Hasler lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Hasler is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Hasler definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Runesson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hasler is controlling him.

Hasler drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hasler jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Runesson wants to stand up but Hasler is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Runesson tries to strike from the bottom.
Hasler wants to control from the top but Runesson keeps moving.

Runesson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Runesson pulls Hasler in to control the position.
Hasler trying to control the position from guard on top but Runesson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Runesson has his hands on Hasler's head, controlling the position.

Runesson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hasler. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hasler drops back looking for a leg! Runesson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Runesson manages to kick Hasler off! Hasler jumps back into Runesson's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Runesson keeping moving, preventing Hasler from controlling successfully.
Hasler stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Runesson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Hasler dives in for a single leg takedown but Runesson sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Hasler is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Hasler has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Runesson is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ruedi Hasler. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hasler changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Runesson fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Runesson stuffs the takedown attempt from Hasler. Hasler gets slowly back to his feet.

Hasler is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Runesson has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Ramirez Dojo Of Excellence. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Runesson connects with a nice short shot to Hasler's temple.
Hasler is trying to control but can't.
Hasler moves into full guard.
Runesson controlling from the top position.
Runesson is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Runesson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Hasler is looking to cinch up a triangle. Runesson throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Hasler's body to avoid the submission. Hasler has instead reached around Runesson's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Hasler arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
