The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Pierre has Ryan pressed against the cage, preventing Ryan from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Ryan wants to break the clinch but can't.
We've been hearing reports that Pierre has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Pierre lands a left hand.
Pierre works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Pierre is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Pierre decides to pull guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Ryan trying to control the position from guard on top but Pierre is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pierre tries to land a sweep but no joy.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pierre is on top in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pierre sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ryan's guard.

Pierre goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Ryan is on top in guard.
Ryan postures up in Pierre's guard and throws a big left but Pierre blocks it.
Pierre is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ryan throws a big right hand that misses.

Ryan postures up in Pierre's guard and throws a big left but Pierre blocks it.
