PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Crew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Tenas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tenas has chosen War is my Destiny as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Crew!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Adam Tenas!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tenas shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Tenas misses with a takedown attempt - Crew sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Tenas moves into the clinch.
Tenas trying to stall but Crew improves his position.
Crew is trying to break free.
Tenas has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Crew avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
John Crew has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adam Tenas.

Crew pulls guard successfully.
Crew tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Tenas stops Crew from standing up.
Tenas tries to free his leg and advance position but Crew is retaining full guard.
Tenas stopping the sweep attempt from Crew.
Crew has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Tenas trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Tenas blocks a head kick by Crew.
Crew lands a slapping body shot.
Tenas looks gassed!
Tenas misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Crew lands the left hand.
Tenas tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Crew swivels and escapes.
Crew misses with a two punch combination.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tenas takes a jab right on the kisser.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Crew fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Crew throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Tenas tumbling to the canvas!


Tenas is rocked!
Crew not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Tenas is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Crew is controlling him.
Crew content to stall in guard here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Tenas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Crew can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Crew looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Crew stands and steps away. Tenas gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Crew throws a lazy head kick

and Tenas moves into the clinch.
Crew prevents the takedown attempt.
Tenas fails to pull guard.
Tenas looking for a takedown.

Crew pulls guard effortlessly.
Crew manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Tenas manages to get himself to full guard.

Crew gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Danga de danga de dang - Crew scores with a four punch combination!
Tenas should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Crew throws a lazy head kick

and Tenas counters with a shoot takedown. Crew fights it but they end up in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Crew dominated that round.
That's time! Crew's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Crew throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Crew throws a nice looking combination but Tenas bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
John Crew is winning the standup battle so far.
Tenas tries to close the distance and clinch up but Crew swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Crew misses with a body kick.
Crew's corner calls for a 1-2. Crew obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Crew misses with a double jab.
Tenas wants to clinch.
Crew closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Tenas is looking to clinch but Crew is avoiding it.
Crew pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Crew digs a good body shot into Tenas's ribs.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Crew lands a slapping body shot.
Crew tries a low kick but Tenas avoids it.
Tenas blocks the body kick.
Crew throws a nice head kick!
Crew throws a sloppy head kick and Tenas moves out of range easily.
John Crew is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Tenas tries to clinch up.
John Crew is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Tenas blocks a head kick by Crew.
Tenas fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Crew pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Tenas avoids the head kick by Crew.
Tenas tries to close the distance and clinch up but Crew swats him away and circles back towards the center.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Tenas.
Tenas moves out of range of the body kick from Crew.
A head kick misses from Crew.
Crew lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Tenas looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
John Crew has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adam Tenas.

Tenas blocks a head kick by Crew.
Crew scores with a crisp jab that stopped Tenas in his tracks.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Crew scores with a one two! Tenas had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Crew misses with a kick to the body.
Crew misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Crew takes a swing at Tenas's ribcage but misses.
Crew tries to land a front kick but Tenas steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Tenas fails in his attempt to clinch.
Crew misses with a few strikes there.

Tenas shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Tenas was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Crew is looking to improve his position but Tenas isn't that keen on the idea.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Tenas is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Crew has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Crew!

Tenas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Crew gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Crew decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Tenas, up you get!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Crew!
Tenas takes one to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Crew dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Crew fails to land with a series of punches.
Crew tries a head kick but it misses.
Tenas takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Crew tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Crew misses with a wild combination.
Crew punishes Tenas's body with a nice straight punch.
Tenas shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Crew but Crew pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Crew lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Crew throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Tenas stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Crew lands a nice shot to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Crew throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Crew does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Crew fails to land with a series of punches.
Tenas fails with the takedown.
Crew scores with a one two! Tenas had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Crew throws a head kick that misses.
Tenas shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Crew but Crew pushes him off and we're back to square one.
John Crew has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adam Tenas.

and Tenas counters by moving into the clinch.
Crew is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Tenas pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Tenas tries for a takedown but Crew manages to get underhooks.
Tenas gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Crew.
Crew is trying to break the clinch but Tenas has him pressed against the cage.
Tenas is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Tenas fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Crew wants a takedown but no success here.
Crew is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tenas can do to turn this around?
Tenas wants a takedown.
Crew drops down looking for an ankle pick but Tenas pulls his leg out and moves away.
Tenas moves away from the strike by Crew.

Tenas shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Crew pinned against the cage. Crew gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Crew throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Tenas fails in his attempt to clinch.
Crew throws a head kick that misses.
Crew misses with a jab, cross combination.
Crew looks to land a right hand but Tenas moved out of range.
Tenas shoots in but no luck this time.
Crew throws a right and a left that both miss.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Crew throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Tenas slips under a jab.

Tenas shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Crew manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Tenas misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Crew looks to score with a jab to the body but Tenas is just out of range.
Adam Tenas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
John Crew is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Crew scores with a hook to the body. Tenas takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Tenas shoots for a takedown but Crew saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Crew lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Crew moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Crew showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Crew, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
