Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dick Pawlik (ranked 2 p4p, 33 weight class) and Rob Roy (ranked 1 p4p, 5 weight class). Pawlik's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, John Butler - Ocean . Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 19 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Dick Pawlik! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 22 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rob Roy! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yukihiro Shimada and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pawlik throws an off balance right hand
and Roy counters with a nice body shot. Pawlik has his takedown stuffed and Roy counters with a nice uppercut. Roy moves out of range of the strikes. Pawlik keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Dick Pawlik seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Pawlik fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Roy avoids it really well and circles away. Roy throws out a counter right but Pawlik avoids it with no problem. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pawlik misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
It seemed like Roy was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Pawlik looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pawlik fails with the takedown and Roy counters with a straight right hand. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dick Pawlik. That's going to take a lot out of him. Roy avoids a lazy jab quite easily. A nice side step and Roy releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Roy throws a shot from downtown. Pawlik moves away and avoids it. Pawlik feinted with a counter takedown. Roy steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Pawlik. A jab lands there for Pawlik. Pawlik scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Pawlik working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The ground and pound from Pawlik seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Pawlik is trying to get an arm triangle but Roy is defending well. Roy is looking to reverse the position. Roy is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Roy is not content to let Pawlik control the position. Pawlik working the ground and pound but Roy is defending the strikes. Pawlik wants to lay and pray for a moment but Roy keeps working. Pawlik working away. Roy tries to bench press Pawlik off him but Pawlik keeps the position. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Roy is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Pawlik's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Pawlik is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Pawlik is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Roy is just riding it out for now. Pawlik eventually gives up the hold. Roy desperately trying to maintain half guard.

He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. Pawlik tries to pass to full mount but Roy defends it. Pawlik is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Roy keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Roy has hold of Pawlik's hands but Pawlik slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Roy is trying to get back to full guard.

Pawlik looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Pawlik is looking to take a break and control but Roy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Roy is trying to get back to full guard. Pawlik seems to be looking for submissions.

Pawlik gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Roy counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Pawlik wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Pawlik scores with a decent looking hook. Pawlik looks for a takedown but Roy sprawls well. It seemed like Roy was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pawlik connects with a slap. Pawlik throws an overhand right that lands on Roy's shoulder, as Roy tries to avoid the shot. Pawlik with a lazy takedown attempt and Roy counters with a left to the body. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dick Pawlik. That's going to take a lot out of him. The fighters circling - Pawlik throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Pawlik shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Roy as he jumps to the side. Roy doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Pawlik paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Roy tests Pawlik's chin there with a solid looking shot. Pawlik tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Roy was well out of range. Poor timing from Pawlik. Pawlik with a lazy takedown attempt and Pawlik takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Roy gets caught flat footed, as Pawlik shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Roy is pulling down on Pawlik's head to control his posture. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pawlik throws a big right hand that misses. Pawlik wants to control from the top but Roy keeps moving. Pawlik sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Roy's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Roy trying to hold on to Pawlik's head to control him but Pawlik postures up.
Roy tries to get to full guard but Pawlik has control of the leg. Roy is trying to maintain the position but Pawlik is very close to passing his half guard. Pawlik throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Pawlik throwing shots but Roy is blocking nicely. Roy is looking for a sweep. Pawlik is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Pawlik is looking for a kimura here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Roy wants to improve his position but Pawlik is controlling well.

Pawlik passes easily into side control. Nice work. Roy gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Roy has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pawlik is working away from the top position though. Roy is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Pawlik trying to control the action but Roy is working from the bottom. Pawlik is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Roy is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Pawlik looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's one minute gone in the round. Roy misses with an uppercut. Pawlik saw that one coming. Pawlik drops down looking for a counter takedown but Roy sprawls and moves away. Pawlik throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Roy was covering up waiting for the punch and Pawlik finishes the takedown easily into guard. Pawlik stopping the sweep attempt from Roy. Pawlik landing with the ground and pound. Pawlik wants to control from the top but Roy keeps moving. Pawlik thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Pawlik being controlled here momentarily. Roy lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Pawlik keeping moving, preventing Roy from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pawlik has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Roy can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Dick Pawlik overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Roy stands and throws Pawlik's legs to the side, diving into side control. Pawlik is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Roy can do to turn this around? Pawlik is looking for a sweep. Roy is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Pawlik's shoulder. That is not cool. Pawlik is trying to improve his position. Pawlik manages to work his way to half guard, despite Roy's best efforts. Roy keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Pawlik is looking for a sweep. Roy is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Roy trying to control the pace.

Roy is continuing to stall. Pawlik is trying to get back to full guard. Roy is taking a breather. Pawlik says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Pawlik wants to control but Roy is keeping busy and won't allow it. Roy takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Pawlik is trying to control but can't.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Pawlik scores with a jab. Pawlik uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Roy.
Roy avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Pawlik swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Pawlik shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Roy counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close third round but Rob Roy just about did enough to take it. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Pawlik lands with a hook. Roy tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Pawlik throws a poor cross that misses
and Roy counters with a nice uppercut. Roy looks to score with a jab to the body but Pawlik is just out of range. Pawlik connects with a right hand. Roy shakes it off. Pawlik misses with a straight right. Roy unleashes a big counter combination but Pawlik bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Roy keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Pawlik. Pawlik shoots in but Roy avoids the takedown attempt easily. Roy swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
That's one minute gone in the round. Horrible takedown attempt by Pawlik or perhaps it was just good defense by Roy, which made it look bad. Pawlik connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Roy swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Pawlik tries to counter with a takedown but Roy is quick to defend against it. Pawlik is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Pawlik throws a series of punches but Roy avoids them all with ease. A nice side step and Roy releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. That's better than Pawlik was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Roy sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Pawlik is looking to take a break and control but Roy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Pawlik not landing any meaningful shots this time. Roy moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Roy looking for a sweep. Not yet Roy, not yet. Pawlik trying to control but Roy is working from the bottom. Roy is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Pawlik takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Roy misses with a body shot.

That was a close fourth round but I would say that Dick Pawlik will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round! Pawlik is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Roy. A big left from Pawlik misses. Roy looks like he wants to counter punch here. Pawlik drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Roy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Roy managing to control the position. Pawlik trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Roy manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pawlik manages to get himself to full guard.

Roy slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Let's hope that Roy has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Rob Roy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

and Roy counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Roy lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Roy fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Roy walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
