This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the bantamweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 42 wins and 31 losses; Dado Mata! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 36 wins and 36 losses; Tobias Pancake! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Russell Pearce and Chad Campbell.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Mata decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Mata (2) vs (0) Pancake Mata is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Pancake sees it coming and defends easily. Mata wants to pass the guard but Pancake is defending well. Pancake looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Mata is looking for a kimura but Pancake is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mata to get the leverage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pancake moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Mata works a leg free and moves into half guard. Mata is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pancake wants to improve his position but Mata is controlling well.
Mata seems to be looking for submissions.

Mata prevents Pancake from improving his position. Pancake is trying to control but Mata passes into side control!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Mata is looking to take a break and control but Pancake is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Pancake is trying to control Mata's posture but Mata avoids it. Mata tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pancake is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Mata's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Mata trying to pass the guard but Pancake defending well. Pancake is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mata's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mata's back! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Mata (5) vs (4) Pancake Pancake trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
I really don't envy Mata right now.
Mata is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Pancake gets his way!
Pancake keeps control of the position as Mata tries to break free.

You can see the frustration on Mata's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Mata is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at New York Public Gym, so we'll see if he gets out of it. Mata fending off the submission attempt from Pancake. Mata tries to escape the position.

Pancake seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Mata is forced to tap and this one is over!
