This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 9 wins and 8 losses; Toby Flenderson! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Alyssa Summers and Columbo Gatti.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Cubbedge shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Cubbedge was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Cubbedge wants to lay and pray for a moment but Flenderson keeps working. Flenderson wants to control but Cubbedge postures up. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cubbedge tries to move into full mount but can't pass Flenderson's legs. You can see the frustration on Flenderson's face as Cubbedge controls the position. Flenderson manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Cubbedge works his way into full mount! Flenderson is in all sorts of trouble here.

That's six minutes gone in the round. Cubbedge is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Flenderson defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. I really don't envy Flenderson right now.

Flenderson is having to fend off submission attempts from Cubbedge , who is looking to sink in the choke. Cubbedge doesn't have the hooks in though and Flenderson manages to reverse position! That's eight minutes gone in the round. Cubbedge has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Flenderson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cubbedge has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Flenderson has managed to get both his arms back between Cubbedge 's legs - danger averted. Flenderson wants to control from the top but Cubbedge keeps moving.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Flenderson looking to sit in guard and control but Cubbedge gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Cubbedge (12) vs (2) Flenderson Cubbedge wants to control from the top but Flenderson keeps moving. Cubbedge stopping the sweep attempt from Flenderson. Flenderson pulls Cubbedge in close to his closed guard and prevents Cubbedge from doing any damage or advancing position. Flenderson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Cubbedge trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Flenderson manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Flenderson trying to control but Cubbedge is working from the bottom. Cubbedge working for submissions but it's allowed Flenderson to get to half guard.
Flenderson slows the pace down in half guard. Flenderson wants to pass to mount but Cubbedge is defending the position.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Flenderson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Cubbedge wants to get back to full guard. Flenderson moves into full mount! Cubbedge won't be happy about that! Score +3 for passing guard: Cubbedge (12) vs (7) Flenderson Flenderson controlling his opponent.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Cubbedge is controlling an arm, preventing Flenderson from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Cubbedge has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Flenderson's lack of action.

That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Flenderson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Cubbedge trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Flenderson manages to pass to mount!

And that's the end of the fight! Cubbedge takes the fight on points by 12 to 10. During a confident post fight interview, Bart Cubbedge thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him. |
