PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ben Askrew (ranked 1345 p4p, 1672 weight class) and Diamond Hand (ranked 183 p4p, 220 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ben Askrew!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Diamond Hand!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Andrew Berry and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Askrew takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Hand throws a hook but Askrew blocks it.
Askrew attempts a counter takedown but Hand avoids it well and moves away.
Hand scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Hand connects with a crisp jab.
A shot to the body from Hand misses

and Askrew counters with a single leg into guard. Hand didn't expect that.

Askrew drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Hand dives on top into guard.


Askrew is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hand is aware though and is defending well.

Askrew is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hand defends well.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Askrew working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hand doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hand manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Askrew throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Hand escapes and throws Askrew's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Askrew is looking to regain half guard here but Hand keeps moving and retains side control.

Askrew seems a little lost for a moment, as Hand dominates the positioning.
Askrew is looking for a sweep.
Hand controls the position.
Askrew is looking to reverse the position.
Hand controls the position.
Askrew tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hand wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Askrew manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hand's best efforts.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hand seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Askrew is trying to reverse the position but instead Hand has taken his back - oops!
Hand is hanging on to Askrew's back as he tries to escape.

Hand controls the position.
You can see the frustration on Askrew's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Askrew is working hard here to advance position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hand really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Askrew. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

You can see the frustration on Askrew's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Hand trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Askrew doesn't escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hand controlling well, preventing Askrew from escaping the position.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Diamond Hand dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Hand is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Askrew.
Askrew appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Askrew walks into a straight right hand from Hand.
Askrew with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Hand to score with a decent uppercut.
Hand rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Askrew moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Askrew drops down looking for a counter takedown but Hand sprawls and moves away.
A punch lands to the side of Askrew 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Askrew tries to move into range but Hand moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Hand looks to land a right hand but Askrew moved out of range.
Askrew feinted with a counter takedown.
Sloppy strikes from Hand. Those never looked like landing.
Hand has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hand fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Askrew takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Hand might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Hand misses the shot to the body.
Askrew attempts a counter takedown but Hand avoids it well and moves away.

Hand throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Hand jabs Askrew right on the nose. Askrew blinks but takes it well.
Askrew walks into a jab.
Hand throws a jab when Askrew was well out of range.

Hand jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
A jab from Hand does it's job there.
Askrew walks into a straight right hand from Hand.

Hand pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Askrew half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Hand has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Askrew is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Askrew bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Askrew looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Hand comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
A cross from Hand lands.
Askrew looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Hand throws a hook but Askrew blocks it.
Hand takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Hand misses with a straight right.
Hand is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Askrew.
Askrew appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Hand throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hand paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Askrew closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Nice shot by Hand.
Diamond Hand seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hand is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Hand digs a good body shot into Askrew's ribs.
Hand scores with the left hand. Askrew knows he should have avoided that one.
Hand lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Hand lands a slapping body shot.
Askrew takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Diamond Hand is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hand clobbers Askrew with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hand lands a big uppercut and Askrew crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Askrew looks OK. Hand waves Askrew back to his feet!

Askrew is rocked!
Hand feints a kick and comes over the top with a right hand, followed by a left hook - both land, sending Askrew crashing to the mat! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Diamond Hand!
Diamond Hand seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
