PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Saigon (ranked 3274 p4p, 3093 weight class) and Jimothy Jones (ranked 421 p4p, 396 weight class). Saigon comes to the cage accompanied by Run through the jungle. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Johnny Saigon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jimothy Jones ! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Phil Schofield and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones wants to clinch but Saigon slips to the side and Saigon counters with a straight right hand. Saigon lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Saigon throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Saigon scores with a shot to the body.
Saigon closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Saigon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Jones wants to control but Saigon is keeping busy.

Saigon sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Saigon has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Saigon unloads with some shots from mount but Jones bucks and avoids them well.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Saigon controlling from the full mount. Jones told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Saigon will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Saigon has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Jones 's face.
Saigon content just to control the position here. Saigon throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones is in all sorts of trouble here.
Saigon raining down hammerfists from mount. Saigon controlling from the full mount. Jones keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Saigon continues to stall. Saigon working for a guillotine from mount but Jones is in no mood to give up. Saigon punishing his opponent with strikes. Saigon controlling the position easily from mount. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. This is a sustained period of stalling by Saigon. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Johnny Saigon dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Saigon displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Jones throws out the jab. Jones misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A quick step to the side and Saigon tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. Jones throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Saigon counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. A shot to the body from Jones misses and Saigon counters with a lovely straight right hand! A head kick misses from Jones . Jones misses the jab. Saigon dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Saigon shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Saigon has a takedown stuffed. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jones keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Jones is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Saigon throws out a powerful jab. Jones on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Jones looks to land a combination but Saigon avoids it well. Saigon lands with a cross.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Saigon, as that shot connected.
Jones is rocked! Saigon is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Jones throws a lazy uppercut
and Saigon counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Jones is still on wobbly legs! Can Saigon finish him? Jones throws a combination that misses and Saigon scores with a counter punch that sends Jones to the canvas! Saigon smells blood - he's punishing Jones with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Jones has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:14 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Johnny Saigon! Johnny Saigon bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
