PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nigel Benn Jr (ranked 1510 p4p, 1481 weight class) and Eric Dungey (ranked 201 p4p, 194 weight class). Eric Dungey told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 28 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nigel Benn Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eric Dungey!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A chopping leg kick lands by Dungey.
Benn Jr looks to land a combination but Dungey avoids it well.
Benn Jr lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Benn Jr fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Dungey manages to avoid it.
Dungey throws out a leg kick but Benn Jr moves out of range and Dungey only half commits.
Benn Jr throws a series of punches but Dungey moves out of range.
Sloppy strikes from Benn Jr. Those never looked like landing.
Dungey just misses with a punch to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Benn Jr wants to land a leg kick but Dungey is out of range.
A countering left hand to the body from Dungey misses.
Dungey walks into a straight right hand from Benn Jr.
Benn Jr has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Benn Jr lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Dungey circles away quickly and effectively.
Benn Jr misses with a jab, cross combination.

Dungey takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
A big left from Dungey misses.
Benn Jr finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Dungey is looking for the big counter here.
Dungey throws a hook but Benn Jr avoids it easily.
Benn Jr will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Dungey is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Benn Jr with a body shot.

Benn Jr tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Dungey is able to avoid easily.

Dungey uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Benn Jr.
It seemed like Dungey was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

and Dungey connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Dungey is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Benn Jr.

and Dungey cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Benn Jr lands a head shot.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Dungey counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Benn Jr thinking.
Benn Jr throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Dungey throws a leg kick but Benn Jr sees it coming and moves out of range.
Nigel Benn Jr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Benn Jr connects with the punch.
Benn Jr takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Dungey throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Benn Jr sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Benn Jr is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Benn Jr swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Dungey! But no joy.
A looping hook to the body misses from Benn Jr. Dungey does a little dance to reset his feet.
Benn Jr throws a right and a left that both miss.
Dungey throws out a counter right but Benn Jr avoids it with no problem.
Benn Jr works Dungey's body with a nice hook.
Benn Jr misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
It seemed like Dungey was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Benn Jr stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dungey slips under a jab.
Dungey connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Benn Jr momentarily.
Dungey steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Benn Jr.
Benn Jr fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Dungey looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Benn Jr works the jab nicely.
Dungey needs to keep his hands up - Benn Jr had a free shot at his head there.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

and Dungey counters with a nice right hand that sends Benn Jr toppling to the canvas! Benn Jr scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Dungey finish him?!

Dungey lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Nigel Benn Jr is winning the standup battle so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Benn Jr misses with an uppercut
and Dungey rattles Benn Jr with a well-timed uppercut counter. - Benn Jr tries to back away and recover but his hands are down low and he gets tagged again, sending him stumbling down to the canvas. Dungey dives in after him and quickly finishes the job with a trio of brutal punches, leaving Benn Jr stiff and motionless on the mat!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Eric Dungey!
A very excited looking Eric Dungey made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
In defeat, Nigel Benn Jr stepped up to the mic, saying 'ill be back'.
