Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ethan Gilbert! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bob Loblaw! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Leandro Rodrigues and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight moves into the clinch position. Loblaw can't find room to land a body shot as Gilbert controls the action.
Gilbert is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Loblaw gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Loblaw manages to pull guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Loblaw is on top in guard.
Loblaw wants to control from the top but Gilbert keeps moving. Loblaw pushing down on Gilbert's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Gilbert knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Loblaw on the ground. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Loblaw passes to side control. Gilbert is pushing Loblaw's head away, looking to escape. Loblaw manages to hold on to the position though. Loblaw lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Loblaw wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gilbert keeps working. Loblaw tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Gilbert misses with a strike from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Loblaw wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gilbert keeps working. Loblaw moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Gilbert manages to get back to half guard. Loblaw missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Gilbert on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Gilbert throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Loblaw thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gilbert's head. Loblaw throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Gilbert missing with punches from the bottom.
Loblaw is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Gilbert! The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Gilbert swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Gilbert tries to reverse the position but Loblaw maintains control. Gilbert is working hard here to advance position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Loblaw blocks Gilbert's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Loblaw lands a nice shot to the head. Gilbert can't escape the position.
Loblaw cracks Gilbert with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Loblaw breaks from Gilbert's wrist control and lands an elbow. Loblaw is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Loblaw extends the arm and Gilbert is forced to tap!
