Coming up we have a middleweight kickboxing rules bout between Marty Robbins (ranked 2761 p4p, 5702 weight class) and Juanito Cortez (ranked 368 p4p, 603 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 52 - 22 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marty Robbins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 36 - 36 - 1, fighting out of New York, Juanito Cortez! The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Arvi Lind and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cortez gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Juanito Cortez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Robbins thumps Cortez with a low kick. Cortez throws a leg kick but Robbins sees it coming and moves out of range. Cortez attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Nice cross by Robbins. Cortez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Robbins has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Marty Robbin's Fight Ranch in the buildup to the fight. Cortez scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Cortez throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Robbins misses with an uppercut. Cortez saw that one coming. Cortez looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Cortez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Robbins looks to score with a jab to the body but Cortez is just out of range. Robbins scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Cortez does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. A punch combination from Cortez misses. Cortez throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Robbins throws a wild body kick that Cortez sees coming a mile off. Cortez swings away with a leg kick that misses. Robbins wants to clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cortez avoids a kick to the body.
Cortez dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Robbins. That did some damage! Jab, jab by Robbins - just one landing. Robbins scores with a sloppy right hand. Cortez should have avoided that one. Robbins jabs Cortez to the body, keeping him at a distance. Cortez throws a leg kick but Robbins sees it coming and moves out of range. Robbins pushes Cortez up against the ropes in a clinch. A right handed body shot lands from Robbins.
Robbins lands with a short shot to the head. Robbins breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. This fight brought to you by 5M nutrition - it's mmmmm tasty. Nice jab by Robbins.
Cortez is rocked! Cortez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Cortez is still on wobbly legs! Can Robbins finish him? Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Robbins has closed the distance and engaged Cortez in a clinch.
Cortez seems to have recovered his senses. Robbins comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Robbins lands an uppercut. Robbins escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Robbins connects with a quick right hand that sends Cortez tumbling backwards onto the canvas! As his head bounces into the ropes, it doesn't look good for him beating the count! 3,4,5,6,7 and he's up! No, he's back down again! This one is all over - the referee has called off the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). Marty Robbins! A relieved looking Marty Robbins thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. Juanito Cortez was interviewed post fight and said 'Well...shit happens....i will b back!'.
