PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jaki Klosov (ranked 4365 p4p, 4363 weight class) and Rob Rey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jaki Klosov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rob Rey!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Fedor Mirinova and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Rey.
Rey is looking to land body kicks.
Klosov tries to counter with a takedown but Rey is quick to defend against it.
Rey circles away from the clinch attempt.
Klosov really is a fat lump.
Klosov wants to clinch up but Rey keeps it at a distance.
Rey darts in looking for a takedown but Klosov gets double underhooks and turns Rey into the cage.

Rey shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Klosov manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Rey wants to pass the guard but Klosov is keeping the position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rey controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
It looks like Rey might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Klosov flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Rey throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Klosov scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Rey manages to mount him!
Rey can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Klosov is looking to escape.
Rey tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Klosov is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Rey controlling his opponent.
Rey wants to control the pace but Klosov is squirming around nicely.
Rey is landing with some decent strikes but Klosov is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Rey pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Klosov wants to hold on but Rey pushes him away.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Klosov can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rey controls the pace.

Rey is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Klosov knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Rey takes a little break here. Klosov wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rey advances to mount.
Klosov is looking to improve his position but Rey isn't that keen on the idea.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rey tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Klosov is working to get back to half guard.
Rey is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Rey trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Klosov can't escape the position.

Rey has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Klosov's face.

Rey has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Rey goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Klosov turns into him and now he's in Rey's guard.

Rey is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Klosov's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Rob Rey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Klosov works Rey's body with a nice hook.
Klosov fails with a takedown attempt.

Rey shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Klosov's guard.
Rey tries to free his leg and advance position but Klosov is retaining full guard.
Klosov has control of Rey's left arm, preventing Rey from doing any damage.

Rey is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Klosov is looking to stand back up but Rey counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Klosov.
Klosov is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Rey seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Klosov does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Rey with shots to the head and body - Klosov looks very uncomfortable down there.
Klosov tries to control Rey's body but Rey pushes him off. Klosov squirms to his side and now Rey has his back!
Rob Rey has got the better of the ground game so far.
Klosov is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Rey lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.
Rey has good solid back control here.
Rey lands an elbow to the side of the head.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Klosov is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Klosov is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Klosov looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Jaki Klosov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rob Rey is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Rey has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
