Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kanud Odimabesser (ranked 928 p4p, 1192 weight class) and Mickey Backman (ranked 135 p4p, 165 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kanud Odimabesser! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mickey Backman! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Reed Andrews and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Backman tries to land a front kick but Odimabesser steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Odimabesser checks a low kick from Backman. Odimabesser throws a counter high kick but Backman was just alert enough to avoid it. Odimabesser gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Backman tries to free his leg and advance position but Odimabesser is retaining full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Backman won't allow Odimabesser to sweep him here. Backman passes into half guard. Backman lands strikes from half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Backman has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Backman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Backman lands with some strikes.
It looks like Kanud Odimabesser has been cut. Backman with the ground and pound from mount. Odimabesser is looking to get to half guard. Backman raining down shots from the mount!
That's one minute gone in the round. Backman goes for an armbar but Odimabesser turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Odimabesser. Backman trying to control the position.
Backman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Odimabesser's guard.
Backman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Odimabesser has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Backman has managed to get both his arms back between Odimabesser's legs - danger averted. Backman lands a couple of elbows. My spies in Simply The Best inform me that Backman has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Odimabesser is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Backman controlling the position well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Odimabesser wants to free his trapped foot but Backman is holding on for dear life with his legs. Odimabesser prevents Backman from improving his position. Backman is pressing down on Odimabesser's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Odimabesser has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Backman lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Odimabesser had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Backman defends it easily. Odimabesser is looking to cinch up a triangle. Backman throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Odimabesser's body to avoid the submission. Odimabesser has instead reached around Backman's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Odimabesser arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Kanud Odimabesser! Kanud Odimabesser retains his welterweight title! An out of breath Kanud Odimabesser thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
