Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mike Hock! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dan Dam! The judges for this bout are , and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dam shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hock as he avoids it easily. No joy there for Hock, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Hock connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Dam tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hock paws at him with a jab and circles away. Dam throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hock's waist but Hock gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dam off to one side. Hock with a nice cross. Hock keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Mike Hock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Dam. Hock throws a right and a left that Dam avoids nicely. Dam shoots in for a double leg but Hock sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Dam shoots in but no luck this time. A slapping leg kick lands for Hock.

Dam looks gassed! Dam tries to clinch there but Hock circles away.
Hock misses with a series of wild punches.
Hock scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Hock working the ground and pound. Dam is letting Hock control him for a moment. Dam can't do much from the bottom here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hock wants to control but Dam is keeping him busy. Hock lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Dam throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land. Dam is pushing Hock's head away, looking to escape. Hock manages to hold on to the position though.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Dam fails with the takedown and Hock counters with a flying knee. Nice. Dam tries to clinch up and Hock counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Hock.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hock won't allow Dam to get back to his feet. Dam wants to sweep but no luck. Hock's corner is telling him to maintain position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hock prevents Dam from getting back to his feet. Hock slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Hock passes Dam's left leg - he's now in half guard. Hock has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dam can't escape the position.
Dam is bucking up trying to escape but Hock cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Dam working to try and regain half guard.
Hock takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Dam tries to hold on but Hock postures up. Hock is in the full mount, landing strikes. Dam tries to lock up and control but Hock gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Dam is wriggling around trying to escape.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Dam wants to hold on but Hock pushes him away. Hock controlling the pace for now. Hock avoids the attempt from Dam to control. Hock trying to control but he's not successful this time. Dam is trying desperately to improve position. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Dam takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mike Hock dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Hock decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Dam is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Dam is looking to control Hock's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Dam avoid being mounted? Dam throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Hock is looking to advance position but Dam won't allow it. Dam looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Dam is looking to control Hock's leg but it's slowly edging free. The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Hock drives through with a takedown into guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Dam manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hock manages to get himself to full guard.
Dam preventing the sweep. Dam is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hock is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hock has escaped and now he's on top! Dam trying to control the position.
Hock has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Hock wants to control from the top but Dam keeps moving. Dam has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Hock has passed into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Hock just content to control the position. Dam striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dam is looking to reverse the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Horrible takedown by Hock or perhaps it was just good defense by Dam which made him look bad. Dam tries to clinch but Hock moves out of range. Hock lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Dam fails with the takedown and Hock counters with a takedown into side control. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hock is looking to take a break and control but Dam is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dam can't do much from the bottom here. Dam is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Mike Hock overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Dam is trying to get back to half guard. Dam can't do much from the bottom here. Dam is not content to let Hock control the position. Hock working away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Dam sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Dam wants to control but Hock is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Dam has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Dam wants to clinch but Hock slips to the side and Hock counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Hock. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Dam looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Mike Hock dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Hock fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Dam shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Dam showed some decent athleticism there. Dam thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Dam is working for a submission of some sort.
Dam seems to be looking for submissions.
Hock keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hock controlling the position well. Dam is looking for a kimura here.
Hock makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hock. Hock wants to sweep here but Dam controlling him for the moment. Dam in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Hock looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dam is one step ahead there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Hock is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Dam trying to control here.
Dam is staying active underneath Hock, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Dam wants to get back to full guard. Dam is trying to escape back to his feet but Hock uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Hock cracks Dam with an elbow. That is naaassty.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hock wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dam keeps working.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Hock fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Dam, pushing him back against the cage. Hock wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Dam wants the takedown. Hock is fighting it off but Dam persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Hock's guard against the cage. Hock is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Dam wants to get up but he can't break Hock's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Hock is trying to keep Dam in close.
Hock has control of Dam's left arm, preventing Dam from doing any damage. Hock trying to keep a closed guard but Dam is proving a slippery customer.
Dan Dam has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mike Hock is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Dam trying to stand up but can't free himself from Hock's guard.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Dam with a lazy takedown attempt and Hock counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hock. Hock breaks from the clinch.
Hock has Dam up against the cage in a clinch.
Dam throws a knee to the head but misses.
Dam misses with a knee strike.
Dam wants a takedown.
Hock escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hock will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Dan Dam. Well Hock has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
