Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gijs Groosman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Johnny Dillon! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dillon keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Groosman. Groosman looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dillon is fending him off so far but Groosman persists. Nope, Dillon circles away and we're back to standing. Groosman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dillon's waist but Dillon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Groosman off to one side. Dillon staying out of range there. Groosman moves out of range of the strikes. Groosman shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dillon as he avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gijs Groosman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Dillon shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Dillon was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Groosman is in all sorts of trouble here.
Dillon avoids the attempt from Groosman to control. Groosman is wriggling around trying to escape.
Groosman is working hard here to advance position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dillon controlling his opponent. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Groosman is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dillon putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Groosman is wriggling around trying to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Dillon wants to control the pace but Groosman is squirming around nicely. Groosman slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Dillon throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Groosman is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Dillon's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Dillon's back! Dillon just trying to survive but Groosman is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Groosman throwing wild punches that miss their target. Groosman has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Dillon is in real trouble here. Groosman gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Dillon is tapping out! Groosman wins by rear naked choke!
