PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Flair (ranked 4798 p4p, 5337 weight class) and Oscar Reems (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Oscar Reems told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Carlos Flair!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Oscar Reems!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Glass and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reems swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Reems displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Flair.
Flair wants to clinch but Reems slips to the side
and Reems counters with a left to the body.
Reems dives in for a single leg takedown but Flair sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Reems shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Reems showed some decent athleticism there.
Reems really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Flair. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Reems with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Reems is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Flair tries to kick Reems off but Reems keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Flair is trying to maintain the position but Reems is very close to passing his half guard.
Reems controlling the action here.
Flair wants to get back to his feet.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Reems trying to pass the guard but Flair defending well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Flair tries to kick Reems off but Reems keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Flair on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Flair tries to get out of the position.
Flair trying to control but Reems postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Flair tries to clinch there but Reems circles away.
Reems fails with a takedown attempt.
Reems connects with a good right hand that stumbles Flair. Flair circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Reems drives through and clinches with Flair against the cage.
Reems tries to score a body lock takedown but Flair shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Carlos Flair has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Oscar Reems.

Reems escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Reems looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Flair!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Flair is trying to control Reems's posture but Reems avoids it.

Reems working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Flair manages to work his way to half guard, despite Reems's best efforts.

Flair slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Reems looking to pass the guard.
Flair is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Flair is trying to control. Reems wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Flair tries to stand and escape but Reems is controlling the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Reems has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Flair is working away from the top position though.
Flair sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Reems defending well though.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Oscar Reems dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Reems throws a sloppy head kick and Flair moves out of range easily.

Reems tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Flair manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Flair half committed to a counter leg kick.
Flair wants to clinch but Reems slips to the side
and Reems makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Flair finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Flair tries to clinch but Reems is having none of it.

Reems scores with a takedown into Flair's guard.
Reems working some strikes from top position.

Flair manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Reems manages to get himself to full guard.

Flair throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Flair trying to control the position from guard on top but Reems is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Reems wants to improve his position but instead Flair has moved into half guard.
Carlos Flair overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Flair not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Flair seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Reems does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Flair is working for a kimura but Reems is defending it quite comfortably.
Reems is not content to let Flair control the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Reems controlling the position for now.

Flair is looking for a kimura here.
Reems missing with punches from the bottom.
Reems wants to control but Flair is keeping busy.

Flair seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Reems is staying active underneath Flair, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Flair in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Reems tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Flair!
