Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Royce Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Zina Silva!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Daniel Cesar and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gracie closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gracie lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Silva looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Silva working for a triangle but Gracie defends it easily.

Gracie thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Gracie slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Silva has his foot on Gracie's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gracie works his way back into a safe position though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie content to stall in guard here.
Gracie has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Royce Gracie just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Silva throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Gracie drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Gracie controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Gracie stands and throws Silva's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva is trying to work for a sweep but Gracie has mounted him!

Silva is in all sorts of trouble here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Royce Gracie dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Gracie looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Gracie drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Gracie as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Silva screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Gracie! Nice submission victory there!
