PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Prince McVicker (ranked 4808 p4p, 4809 weight class) and Dan Steely (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dan Steely told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Prince McVicker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dan Steely!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Konstantin Menshow and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McVicker throws a body shot but no joy.
McVicker misses with a body shot.
McVicker goes for a double leg but Steely avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Steely continues to drive forward.
Steely slows down the pace here.
McVicker stalling the fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Steely has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. McVicker avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Steely has clasped his hands together around McVicker's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Steely lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear McVicker down.

McVicker tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Steely wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Steely is looking to take a break and control but McVicker is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Steely cracks McVicker with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Steely lands a few punches from side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McVicker is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Steely landing a few strikes.
McVicker is looking for a sweep.
McVicker gets back to half guard.
McVicker is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Steely's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Steely's back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McVicker lands with a hammerfist to the side of Steely's head.
Steely tries to break free.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McVicker is trying to stick to Steely's back but Steely is turning into McVicker. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in McVicker's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Steely.
McVicker looking for a sweep. Not yet McVicker, not yet.

McVicker is trying to control the position but Steely postures up.
Steely looking to sit in guard and control but McVicker gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

McVicker loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
McVicker works over Steely with some ground and pound from guard.
McVicker trying to control but Steely is working from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Steely is on top in guard.

Steely lands a couple of decent looking shots.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

McVicker working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Steely doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Steely manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
McVicker keeping full guard, as Steely tries to pass.
Steely wants to control from the top but McVicker keeps moving.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Steely stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McVicker swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Steely dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


McVicker shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Steely wants to control the action here but instead McVicker manages to pass to full mount!

McVicker is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by McVicker!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Prince McVicker!
A relieved looking Prince McVicker thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
