Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Judge (ranked 860 p4p, 912 weight class) and Kron Gracie (ranked 99 p4p, 18 weight class). Judge comes to the cage accompanied by The Game- Disturbed. Kron Gracie will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ricky Judge! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kron Gracie! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie lands a jab to the head.
Gracie misses with a few strikes there.
Gracie throws a body shot but no joy. Gracie shoots for a double leg takedown but Judge sprawls well. He's pushed Gracie's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Gracie fails with a takedown attempt. Judge tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gracie swivels and escapes. A countering left hand to the body from Gracie misses. Gracie defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Judge. Judge misses the jab. Gracie slips a straight right by Judge. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Judge takes a swing at Gracie's ribcage but misses. Gracie uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Judge. Gracie shoots in for a takedown but Judge shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Ricky Judge has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kron Gracie. Gracie throws a nice looking combination but Judge bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Judge slaps away a takedown attempt from Gracie, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Judge misses with a takedown attempt - Gracie sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Gracie gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Gracie keeping moving, preventing Judge from controlling successfully. Gracie has his foot on Judge's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Judge works his way back into a safe position though. Judge preventing the sweep. Judge got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gracie has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Judge has managed to get both his arms back between Gracie's legs - danger averted. Judge trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Judge wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving. Gracie is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Judge not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie wants to sweep but no luck. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Gracie working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Judge has passed into half guard!
Judge perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Judge looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Gracie is staying active underneath Judge, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Judge content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Judge is keen to just control but Gracie is a slippery customer. Gracie has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at EFC Gym. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Gracie keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Gracie tries to close the distance and clinch up but Judge swats him away and circles back towards the center. Judge fails with a takedown attempt. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. I was talking to Judge's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Gracie lands with a right to the head. Gracie tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

A close second round but Kron Gracie will probably get the nod - 10:9. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Judge throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gracie's waist but Gracie gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Judge off to one side. Judge closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Ricky Judge overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Gracie manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Judge preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
