The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Giannopoulos clinches with his opponent.

Mada tries to land knees in the clinch but Giannopoulos avoids the damage to the body.

Giannopoulos wants the takedown. Mada is fighting it off but Giannopoulos persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Mada's guard against the cage.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Mada doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Giannopoulos is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

We've been hearing good reports from Giannopoulos's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Giannopoulos stands up and beckons Mada to join him on the feet.
