PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Stefan De Vries (ranked 2023 p4p, 2040 weight class) and Adam Bogo (ranked 124 p4p, 126 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Stefan De Vries!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Adam Bogo!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, David Schapiro and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bogo takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Bogo steps to the side to avoid the strikes from De Vries.
De Vries takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
A jab from De Vries finds it's way through Bogo's defenses.
De Vries rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Bogo counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Bogo thows a huge punch but De Vries dodges it nicely.

Bogo wants to work for an arm triangle but De Vries is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Bogo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and De Vries defends it well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A slow jab from De Vries misses its intended target.
De Vries throws a body shot but no joy.
Bogo changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Bogo takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

De Vries is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Donk. De Vries catches Bogo right on the button with a cross.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Bogo displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as De Vries throws out the jab.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

De Vries is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
De Vries knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bogo on the ground.

Bogo drops back, looking for a kneebar! De Vries looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. De Vries looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from De Vries!

Bogo is looking to reverse the position.
De Vries remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
De Vries is looking to take a break and control but Bogo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

De Vries is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bogo can do to turn this around?

That was a close second round but I would say that Stefan De Vries will probably get the nod.
That's time! De Vries's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Nice straight punches there by De Vries. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of De Vries.
Bogo has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

I was talking to De Vries's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

De Vries is pressed up against the cage. Bogo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag De Vries down to the mat. De Vries avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Bogo takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
De Vries misses with a hook. Bogo ducked under it nicely.
De Vries jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Stefan De Vries is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Bogo counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for De Vries!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

De Vries tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bogo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Bogo goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, De Vries has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Bogo but great work by De Vries.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for De Vries, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
