This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of St Petersburg, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 9 losses; Eliott Leighton! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 3 losses; Vaai Finau!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.
Leighton tries to keep at a distance but Finau has taken the fight into the clinch.
Finau successfully pulls guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Leighton drops back looking for a leg! Finau is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Finau manages to kick Leighton off! Leighton jumps back into Finau's guard.
Finau seems keen to control Leighton's posture.
Leighton won't allow Finau to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Leighton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Finau swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Leighton trying to control the position from guard on top but Finau is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Leighton is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Finau wants to control from the top but Leighton keeps moving.
We've been hearing good reports from Leighton's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Finau content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Leighton has locked up a guillotine! Leighton's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Finau is holding on here and Leighton must be using up a lot of energy. Finau has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Leighton gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
