Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Roger Michael Stanley (ranked 1069 p4p, 1749 weight class) and Noah Ortega (ranked 141 p4p, 232 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Roger Michael Stanley has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Roger Michael Stanley seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Roger Michael Stanley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Noah Ortega!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Emerson Jorge and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ortega pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
A jab lands there for Ortega.
Ortega scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Stanley doesn't seem bothered though.
Ortega shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Ortega scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Ortega lands a jab to Stanley's midsection.
Stanley takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Ortega takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Ortega looks to throw a body kick
letting Stanley counter with a right hand.
Stanley connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ortega gets a clinch.
Stanley struggles to land a body shot inside as Ortega controls his hands.
Ortega blocks a body shot from Stanley.
Stanley has a couple of punches blocked by Ortega.

Stanley tries to throw a body punch but Ortega avoids it by throwing Stanley back against the cage.
Ortega blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Stanley throws a head punch that misses.
A head punch on the inside from Stanley fails to land.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Stanley.
Nice body punch from Stanley.
Stanley throws a punch but it's blocked by Ortega.

Ortega wants the takedown. Stanley is fighting it off but Ortega persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Stanley's guard against the cage.

Stanley thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ortega throws his legs up looking for a submission but Stanley uses it to pass to side control.
Ortega looking for a sweep but Stanley has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ortega tries to improve his position but instead Stanley has taken his back!
Stanley seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Stanley has the hooks in. Ortega is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Stanley has good solid back control here.
Ortega looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ortega is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Stanley off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
Ortega rolls, trying to escape but Stanley keeps control of the position.

Stanley has good solid back control here.
Ortega is trying to break free.
What can Ortega do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
I really don't envy Ortega right now.

Ortega is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Stanley gets his way!
Ortega tries to roll but Stanley sticks to his back.

That was a close round but I would say that Roger Michael Stanley will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Stanley tries to sprawl but Ortega drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Ortega looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Ortega working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Ortega is just content to waste time from the top position. Stanley takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Ortega passes Stanley's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ortega is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Stanley is trying to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ortega slows the pace down in half guard.
Ortega wants to pass to mount but Stanley is defending the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ortega stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stanley swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ortega is looking to work some ground and pound but Stanley has wrist control.
Stanley trying to keep a closed guard but Ortega is proving a slippery customer.
Stanley bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ortega's guard.

Stanley won't allow Ortega to sweep him here.
Ortega wants to hit a sweep here but Stanley passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Ortega there!
Ortega holds on to Stanley around his waist, trying desperately to prevent any attacks.
Ortega wants to control but Stanley is having none of it.

Stanley wants to take his opponent's back but Ortega doesn't allow it.
Ortega looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Stanley controlling well, preventing Ortega from escaping the position.
Ortega turns into Stanley and is now in his guard.
Stanley pulls Ortega in close to prevent any damage.

Stanley is pulling down on Ortega's head. It's preventing any offense from Ortega, at least for the moment.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ortega accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Ortega controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Ortega stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stanley swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Stanley wants to sweep here but Ortega controlling him for the moment.
Stanley has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

A close second round but Noah Ortega will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Ortega is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Stanley still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Stanley has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
