PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Misalchicha Montreal (ranked 1546 p4p, 3820 weight class) and Jacob Pokorney (ranked 233 p4p, 478 weight class). Pokorney has chosen Never Gonna Give You Up as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Misalchicha Montreal !
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jacob Pokorney!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Vladimir Khabensky and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Montreal closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Montreal lands in his opponent's guard.
Pokorney keeping moving, preventing Montreal from controlling successfully.
Montreal throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Montreal has gone for a leg lock! Pokorney slips out almost immediately though and dives into Montreal 's guard.

Montreal tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Montreal has a closed guard, preventing Pokorney from standing up.
Pokorney is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Montreal keeping moving, preventing Pokorney from controlling successfully.

Montreal has his foot on Pokorney's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pokorney works his way back into a safe position though.

Pokorney is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Montreal is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Montreal sneaks back into half guard.
Montreal is controlling Pokorney's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Pokorney is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Montreal defends it well.
Pokorney is keen to just control but Montreal is a slippery customer.
Montreal is concentrating on defense, preventing Pokorney from advancing position.
Montreal trying to hold on to Pokorney's head to control him but Pokorney postures up.
Pokorney wants to take a breather but Montreal is having none of it.
Montreal tries to get to full guard but Pokorney has control of the leg.
Pokorney wants to control but Montreal is keeping him busy.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Montreal drags the fight down to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Montreal looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Montreal wants to sweep but no luck.
Pokorney has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Montreal is proving hard to escape from.

Montreal escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pokorney gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Montreal might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Montreal holds on and takes a little breather.

Pokorney avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Pokorney throws a big elbow that misses.

Pokorney is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Pokorney wants to control from the top but Montreal keeps moving.
Pokorney must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Montreal looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Montreal has an active guard here but Pokorney has managed to pass into half guard.
Montreal moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pokorney postures up in Montreal 's guard and throws a big left but Montreal blocks it.

That was a close round but I would say that Misalchicha Montreal will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Pokorney has managed to clinch.

Montreal gets control of Pokorney's arms and successfully pulls guard. Montreal will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Montreal is looking for a triangle but Pokorney pushes his legs off easily.
Pokorney wants to control from the top but Montreal keeps moving.
Pokorney connects with a couple of short punches.
Montreal wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Pokorney is now in half guard.
Misalchicha Montreal overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Montreal is trying to control but can't.
