Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Khalil Yan (ranked 4583 p4p, 5619 weight class) and Julian Soza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Julian Soza is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Khalil Yan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Julian Soza!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soza fails with a takedown attempt.
Soza does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Soza closes the distance looking to clinch

and Yan counters with a nice double leg into side control. Soza won't be happy with that.

Soza bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Yan throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Soza bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Soza throws a series of punches but Yan moves out of range.
Soza throws a quick inside leg kick.

Yan scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Yan is controlling the pace.
Soza has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Yan is working away from the top position though.

Yan is trying to work for a kimura but Soza is defending well.
Yan is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Soza trying to control but Yan postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Soza is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Soza missing with punches from the bottom.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Soza avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Yan.
Yan is keen to just control but Soza is a slippery customer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Soza gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Yan counters with a takedown into side control.

Yan trying to control the action but Soza is working from the bottom.
Soza is looking for a sweep.
Soza keeps trying to improve his position.

Yan goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Soza has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Yan but great work by Soza.
Yan tries to buck Soza off but Soza is having none of it.
Yan wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
You can see the frustration on Yan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Soza wants to lay and pray for a moment but Yan keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yan tries to buck Soza off but Soza is having none of it.
Soza scores with punches from side control.
Soza throws a strike aimed at the side of Yan's head but Yan avoids it well.
Yan tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Soza tries to score with some ground and pound. Yan controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Yan parries the strikes from Soza easily there. Soza is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Yan to escape.

Soza stands up and beckons Yan to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Julian Soza dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Soza avoids the head kick by Yan.
Soza darts in trying to clinch

and Yan counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Yan keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Yan stands up out of the half guard.
Soza slaps away a takedown attempt from Yan, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Yan leaves Soza with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Yan thinks about countering with a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yan misses with a takedown attempt - Soza sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Yan counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Yan.
Khalil Yan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Julian Soza.

Yan gets control of Soza's arms and successfully pulls guard. Yan will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Yan is looking for a triangle but Soza pushes his legs off easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Soza wants to control from the top but Yan keeps moving.
Soza stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Yan swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Soza avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Soza throws a big elbow that misses.
Soza missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Soza trying to control the position from guard on top but Yan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Soza throws a head kick but Yan moves out of range.

Yan shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Soza's guard.

Soza has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Yan is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Soza is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Soza tries to break the clinch but Yan is controlling the position.
Soza prevents a takedown attempt there.

Soza wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Yan has him pressed against the cage.

Soza breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Soza closes the distance and clinches.
Yan wants to break free but Soza has control.
Soza can't break the clinch.

Yan pulls guard.
Soza trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Soza wants to control from the top but Yan keeps moving.

Soza decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Yan, up you get!

Yan fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Soza to the ground. Yan is now in Soza's guard.

Soza scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Soza throws a head kick that half lands.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Soza looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Khalil Yan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Yan dives in and scores a takedown into Soza's guard.
Soza is trying to control the position but Yan postures up.

Yan stands up from Soza's guard - Yan perhaps looking for a knockout.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Julian Soza will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Yan shoots in and bounces Soza off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Yan would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Soza takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Yan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Yan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Yan scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Soza to see if he's OK.

Soza tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Yan easily slips into full mount!

Yan is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Soza is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

I think Soza has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
